Ugh, please stop with the tech crap. Not everyone is silly enough to game on their pc. Not everyone has their motherboard blow up either...
Anyway, more talk about the actual game please. I hear a lot of people talking about archery, but what about other weapons? The stupidly high sneak attack bonus on daggers in stealth tree makes me wonders if it's only because of how miniscule their damage will be. I'm hoping it's more of a 'if you can sneak it with a dagger, you deserve a kill' kind of thing.

how dare people talk about PC-related stuff for a PC game
how dare they.
But you asked so nicely:
I'm so damn pleased the faces look fairly okay, gonna bring back my Altmer "Heavy Armor Wizard of Doom" from Daggerfall, and she will kick ass.
Unfortunately she won't be able to kick ass with Chrysamere while also slinging spells, but I'll make do.
Making real maps of our fantasy worlds is an Elder Scrolls tradition. As Todd Howard said all the way back in a Morrowind blog post, “There’s something about having a physical object in your hands that feels like it’s part of this other world, that you are that person in the game, finding your way among the hills.”
With that in mind, today we are announcing that anyone who preorders Skyrim will automatically receive a premium quality world map with their copy as a no-extra-cost-to-you bonus.
To guarantee your copy of your premium quality world map, please pre-order today.
Update: We’ve received plenty of questions about the map. So you know, it’s a high-grade material that has a feel similar to burlap, and will be available in North America and European territories. There will be a regular paper map included in all copies of the game, but if you want to get the premium map, we recommend pre-ordering the game.
The bit about beating the shit out of a guy to have him say "Good to see you!" a moment later sounds like vintage ES to me. Would almost feel weird if stuff like that didn't happen.

He was clearly doing that to invoke a false sense of security so that he could eventually backstab the reviewer.
I hope the Empire don't get portrayed as the Bad Guys to the Stormcloak Good Guys. F:NV's factions were a big letdown after supposedly being so morally grey, only to have the Legion be cartoonishly evil (and yes I know Obsidian did that and not Beth).
There are some pretty huge benefits to being part of the Empire. It'd be fantastic if the game actually explored the question of prosperity and stability versus freedom and culture, though I don't expect it.
I don't know much about Elder Scrolls lore, and I've been avoiding any plot-related info for Skyrim, so I don't really know much about these two factions. But I really, really agree with this right here.

Owww. New Vegas comparison is bad. New Vegas was a buggy hot mess on the consoles. Seriously, I doubt it will be quite 'that' bad for SKYRIM...oh god I hope not.
I just watched a random part of that Let's Play video.
I love that guy.
I mean, the way he plays drives me insane but it's just so enjoyable to watch him fumble about.
Also, he seems really proud of the fact that he called a draygon.
I've never touched an ES game before outside of playing the opening 15 minutes of IV, but this just looks and sounds amazing. I picked up development at E3 and it just seems like the world is so open and immersive.
I guess my only real question is am I going to be expected to try and play as more than one character ... I guess in essense, is this more of a combat system like Dragon Age where you switch between multiples or like Demon Souls with just one? I always loved the concept behind DA, but for some reason I was a trainwreck when I had to control 3+ characters.
I'm kind of itching to reinstall Oblivion while I wait, but man, that modding guide in the OP made my brain evacuate and flee for its life. Eh, I can wait until the 11th.

Ever play Fallout 3 or New Vegas? Only one character, third or first person. Combat is also much simpler than Dragon Age, there's no hot bar of spells or abilites to worry about. Just point your sword in front of whomever you want to kill and hack away.

You play alone, or with companions you can hire. Only one at a time, though. You can give them commands like telling them to wait somewhere or giving them orders to steal something. You will also have to play beside NPCs during certain quests. I don't know if you can give them orders, though.

Eh, while you can play that way, it's not ideal.
Pizzle- It's not like DA at all. You'll only be controlling one character, and how you play really depends on you. Melee combat is about using the correct power attack, blocking, dodging out of the way, which enchants or poison you use, etc. But, when you first start out the bar is going to be very low. You can just walk up to a mudcrab and jam the attack button if you want. When the enemies get tougher, it behooves you to kind of figure out which end of the sword to stick in the guy :-p .
Basically, you've got 3 main ways to fight- Melee, Archery, and Magic. Magic is more complicated than the others because there are more options in the variety of spell effects. Within those 3, you can either fight head on, or with stealth (and get huge damage multipliers). With magic you can fight with summons to tank damage for you.
Overall though, don't be intimidated. The learning curve is very slow.

It's nothing like Dragon Age in that regard.
Have you played the recent Fallout games?
I've wanted to, but unfortunately my backlog is rather massive and quite scary. They are on the list, lord only knows where though, but from the way things are looking I was considering jumping Skyrim up to the top 3.
Ok, well that makes me feel more at ease about dropping nearly full market cost for the game instead of waiting for a used copy and hoping for the best later on, thanks (all)!
It looks like Bethesda may have taken down that guy's LP videos. Either that or their server is fucking up. I was watching the untimely death of his horse, Oscar, and shaking my head at the fact there was a dragon right behind him and he didn't realize it.

I was actually enjoying that LP, commentary retardation aside. I hope it isn't gone.

I ALMOST installed Oblivion this morning. But it's just not worth it, with only a few days til release. Besides I've articles to review and exams to prepare for. I should probably not let Bethesda ruin my professional life.
Any recommended mods people want to mention for Oblivion, while I'm downloading mod manager stuff? I recall running Oscuro's Overhaul once, with a new leveling system.

Also, (sorry for two posts in a row) but I have to say it's really cool a lot of people are checking out the Elder Scrolls with Skyrim's release. I'm sure that happened to a certain degree with Oblivion, but I've seen a few folks in this thread who have played various RPGs say that Skyrim has grabbed their attention to TES.
My first experience with these was through Morrowind and let me tell you, it was not a pleasant one. I know a lot of people love the shit out of Morrowind, but I don't think it was a very accessible game. You had to know what you were getting into before you played it, and I didn't. While I didn't devote a lot of time to the game, I managed to squeeze enough enjoyment out of it to give Oblivion a try. I had a lot of fun with that one, especially with mods, but everything kinda clicked with FO3 and FONV. The customization, the exploration, and the unknown: those three things make these games really, really good.
TES games are definitely not for everybody. But I think Bethesda has really refined the formula for their games, such that they maintain the charm of those three elements and have gained a great deal of accessibility as well. Hopefully the new folks who try these find a genre they can latch on to.

Deal, as long as you stop posting general crap.
Edit: just found some info:

I use this store and they are pretty good, so no worries at least for me. Plus for melbournians they have a physical store.
I really shouldn't be getting this but the price is pushing me over the edge. Loooooooved morrowind, but missed out on oblivion.
Huh, though they seem to have the import edition for some reason. Might want to contact them before getting it.
That some kind of dunmer thing?
Bloom effects.

Obviously.
Not gonna be watching myself but it's free for everyone.
