Microsoft won't take my money

I was trying to purchase myself some points for some XBLA purchases when something seemed to happened.

I signed up with a new CC and double/tripled checked my information, but for whatever reason I can't seem to purchase anything. It just keeps telling me that my card is invalid. About a day later I received an email from Microsoft stating, "You will not have access to the service until you update the payment information for Xbox Live 2000 Microsoft Points bundle. If payment is due for other Microsoft services purchased with the above card, those services may also be affected. ".

Yeah, I am confused. This happen to anyone else?

Check with your bank. They should be able to see what was causing your card to get rejected. Does the card for for other thigs?

Yep, bought some lunch with the card, so I don't think it's on my CC company's end.

And yeah, I activated it. New as in it was the first time I used it with XBLA.

Then definately call the bank. They can look up the transaction log and see why it was rejecting. It might be something simple like the card's address has the wrong zip. It's gonna be easier to get that info from your bank than from MS.

I once had a credit card reject when I went to buy shoes. When I called the credit card company they informed me that I wasn't the kind of person that buys shoes, so they went ahead and "protected" me from the charge. I assured them that I do, in fact, occasionally purchase shoes and haven't been "protected" since. So maybe your credit card company is auto flagging Xbox Live on you for some reason.

    (for future reference to others):

I had this problem myself on Xbox Live.
When I updated the new card's information via the console, it would reflect the corrected information...but when I tried to purchase something...I would receive the wacky error code.

Googled the error code and confirmed that it was an error with the payment information (even though I had updated it via the console).

Finally, I logged onto my account from the actual Microsoft Xbox Live webpage (via computer), deleted my stored credit-card information, reloaded it.
And it worked like a charm on the console immediately after.

Yep, you now have 2 cards on your account and it's still reading your old card as the default card (I think - my experience).

I had that issue once -- it was related to moving, so my the billing address for my Xbox Live account no longer matched the billing address for my credit card.

I think that is what caused it Sammy. As I seem to recall logging on to my Live account and updating my address.

To add to this, and it's Xbox 360 related; My best friend knows a woman who plays games, much as I play games. When she went to purchase Microsoft Points the transaction was declined and she would get errors. When she contacted her bank to inquire as to what was going on, they said they thought fraudulent activity was happening, since girls don't play games... if my credit card company did that to me based on my gender I think I'd be canceling the card and changing banks.
