Hello America. I was reading a book called "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield the other day. While it might seem like exaggeration, one entry from the book on the subject of "The Unlived Life" wherein you keep putting shit off until you get cancer or something got me thinking about it's closing paragraph which read:
"You know, Hitler wanted to be an artist. At eighteen he took his inheritance, seven hundred kronen, and moved to Vienna to live and study. He applied to The Academy of Fine Arts and later the School of Architecture. Ever see one of his paintings? Neither have I. Resistance beat him. Call it an overstatement but I'll say it anyway: it was easier for Hitler to start World War 2 than it was for him to face a blank square of canvas."
While I don't know what stake Pressfield has in posthumously owning Hitler, I guess the sentiment I glean from this is that it's pretty difficult to create something? Or that starting World War 2 is really fucking easy.
That aside, have any of you gotten any closer to your personal aspirations? Alternatively, there can be crying or youtube vids.
the fine arts academy rejected him because of the test he was given
i've actually seen some of his art and it's decent
this guy is silly

I became what i wanted to become, an architect, and it sucks. Now i realize i just wanted to be a ski bum, or Don Draper. Thank you, book. I actually read this book, its ok. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance is better.

I guess my biggest realistic aspiration at this point was to be self sufficient and happy and I've pretty much got those things. Though there have been new items appearing on the list.
I've gotten better at art, but in return I've gotten slower at it. Like in the last year I've finished (from concept sketch to full color) one piece. The piece itself took about a week or two of putting most of my free time into it. I've done a million messy sketches, but that's the only thing I've truly finished.
I have a steady full time w/benefits job and work in a great field, but I work at the ass end of it. Though it's not the entirety of my job, I'm basically a janitor at a veterinary hospital and boarding kennel. I'm working on learning what I can from my coworkers to gain the experience and job knowledge to earn my way into becoming a vet assistant and eventually just going to school for the certified vet tech program so I can have an actual career.

Anyone else seen the Justified episode about Hitler art?
It has The Doctor from Voyager AND Buster Bluth.
The whole episode, the Robert Picardo character keeps asking Raylan Givens to see his Hitler painting collection.
And in the end? It's a collection of jars of ashes because he really fucking hates Hitler. Also his father, who was the Nazi in charge of collecting Hitler's paintings.
But the forgeries, he keeps. Because they have really good people in them, which Hitler never managed, apparently. Always landscapes and such, where the people are done kinda shitty.

Woah woah, you haven't read this? Or are you being internet sarcastic.
Either way, it's a great book. And no, it's not just about motorcycles. But it effectively uses them as a metaphor for more than I would have thought possible.

Still self serving though.

Then I wanted to be a doctor, do I can cure disease and people could live better lives.
Now I'm settling for being a nurse and helping them be comfortable.
