I was playing MMX at a friend's house a few months ago
he watched me beat it from start to finish (which takes about 45 minutes)
and he got all pissed when I was done
"the fuck's your problem?"
"fuck you, that's what. I've never been that good at anything in my life."
I played MMX from start to finish at work (GameStop) in like, 2005 or 2006. When I started jumping into Armadillo's pit for the fireball, my boss was like "What are you doing? Why do you keep dying?" and I was like, "Are you serious?" Dude was a 25 year old manchild who loved Mega Man and Street Fighter
when I finally got the fireball he flipped out all "HOLY SHIT WHAT? WAS THAT ALWAYS IN THE GAME? HOW DID YOU GET IT?" and called up his friend and his friend was like, "Dude, it's been over 10 years. How didn't you know about that?"
I didn't know you could get the arm cannon upgrade in Flame Mammoth's stage until a few years ago
I always just got it from Zero
I still prefer to do it that way because the dialogue is better

Are they the same gun though? I know in the Maverick Hunter X the arm from Zero is more powerful than the flame mammoth stage arm

I don't hate it
I can still watch it
but qualifying it as something other than nostalgia wankery is a lie

in vanilla MMX they're identical

Well then, now I can play original MMX and feel proud in my knowledge I wasn't gimping myself.
Also my only real beef with Maverick Hunter X is that it's too easy. This feels like the weirdest complaint ever but it's just not as hard as the original MMX and I'm a little sad my MMX cart died so I can never know the beauty of the original again.

my main gripe with Maverick Hunter was that they did it with polygons instead of sprites
I hate this assumption in the game industry that 3d is always better than 2d
also, you can get a used copy of MMX for less than twenty bucks
apropos of nothing, I think Ratchet and Clank, i.e. the first game in the series has the best narrative
the later games improve on the mechanics, and that's really what's important, but the narrative is pretty thin after on PS2
full disclosure: I have not played any of the PS3 games

Yeah, the first one probably had the best story.
But my favorite (story wise) is still Up Your Arsenal because Dr. Nefarious is so good.
I saw it when I wasn't a kid, maybe that matters? All of the faux commotion and yelling is just really annoying. Short Round is annoying. The fat kid is annoying. Half of the movie is the group trying to create a sense of chaos and it's really hammy and dumb.
Oh wow really? I thought MMX was one of those classics where the price inordinately high.
Like Crono Trigger or some other jrpg bullshit
the reason those games are collectible is because their north american releases didn't actually sell all that well, and weren't really a huge mainstream success until after they went out of print
example: the PS1 and SNES versions of Chrono Trigger combined only sold about 300,000 copies in the US
compare that to MMX, which sold over a million copies (this is a worldwide figure, but action games tend to sell better in the US than in japan so I bet most of those were in the US)
so, more copies in the market means lower used prices
this is why X2 and X3 are worth significantly more than X1 despite being objectively worse games; they didn't sell remotely as well in their initial runs, and so there are fewer copies to meet the demand
Shorty on

Pretty sure I only played like two levels of Megaman 1.
MMX is arguably the best of the X series
2 and 3 were both very good as well, though
I think I got Maverick Hunter X along with my PSP I got from my buddy.
Should probably give that a shot.
yes, you should
one thing to keep in mind: go to chill penguin first, because you'll get the dash upgrade there and this is an absolute necessity. once you get it, the game completely unfolds.

I've never seen Richard Curtis' other stuff (except the one Doctor Who ep he wrote which was beautiful and legit almost made me cry)
So I don't really know - or care! - that he only writes about rich Londoners (and... Tories? whatever they are)
But Love Actually has Hugh Grant being charming and Liam Neeson's kid being awesome and Alan Rickman being a smartass and Keira Knightley being Keira Knightley so I am

not gonna lie, I thought that movie was delightful
no

Yeaaaap.
nothing from your childhood was any good, it was always crap and now you are crap for having liked it
would probably hate it
I'm mister White Christmas.
in vanilla MMX they're identical
let me tell you about the shitty love lives of wealthy, pasty tories from london
:^:
every one of his films ever
buuuuut he also made Black Adder
not a film, but still good

Pretty much!
Nooooooope.
Pretty sure I only played like two levels of Megaman 1.
Ugh, what made him turn to schmaltzy romance
And not even romantic romance, the type of hideous film romance that would be really creepy if enacted in real life
my main gripe with Maverick Hunter was that they did it with polygons instead of sprites

Like Crono Trigger or some other jrpg bullshit
Well he seemingly tells stories about upper-middle class wealthy tories from London because he is one
And I guess he tells stories about creepy romance because, er, they make money?

MMX is my favorite game and Maverick Hunter was awesome
definitely play it
Did you just call Chrono Trigger bullshit?
I hate JRPGs and I think Chrono Trigger is phenomenal
WRONG
Muppet Christmas Carol
The PS3 games are better
I haven't played All 4 One, though
I actually don't mind JRPGs and Crono Trigger is probably one of the better ones.
But they're all bullshit when you put them on a pedestal next to my favorite game ever, even If it's illogical to compare them at all.
