oh man, the atmosphere of a snowy night in windhelm during a detective quest is fucking fantastic, though i think the fxaa inject i got running is making it even more so.

How do you get that quest? NPCs keep talking about murders but I haven't found any way to get the quest to track the killer down or anything.
He was at shearpoint. Shot arrows at him until he landed, then the Draugr sorcerer awakened. Backstabbed him to death, went back to the dragon who sat in front of the word wall and didn't react. Backstabbing didn't change that either. When his health went to zero, he took off, breathed ice at me once and died. Weird; Still I hope I can get the drop on a dragon once, backstabbing is pretty much all I'm good at.

I've heard you have to go in an out of windhelm four times for it to trigger to start.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

I can't get it to trigger for the life of me. So frustrating.

haha, I just killed that same dragon. I was too weak to kill the sorcerer though... I had to run away. Luckily I had time to read the word wall and kill the dragon first.
The Black Star is only supposed to hold black souls (which are always grand souls) but due to a bug it functions as intended, but also as a vanilla Star of Azura.
Correct. So unless you really, really want the follower you can get as a reward (who is actually a very good companion NPC), always go for the Black Star.
I picked the vanilla version without knowing about the other one. Kinda regretted it initially but Aranea Lenith (the NPC) more than made up for it. I really like her as a companion, plus I already have a surplus of soul gems
I've not triggered the detective quest in Windhelm either. But I've already stolen the damning evidence T_T
the mod I really want is one that adds categories to chests. ie the main chest tab that lists everything but then depending on what is in it will have a weapons, apparel ingredients etc category thatonly shows those items, i don't know why it doesn't show up on chests but does for merchants
I don't think you have to join the dark brotherhood to get every one.
Minor shout spoiler for Dark Brotherhood.
Their first hideout near falkreath has a word for the murder shout in the hideout itself.
I've heard you can opt to eliminate the Dark Brotherhood instead of join them and you can go in their sanctuary that way. This is just what I've heard, though.
I went to Windhelm to deliver the Jarl of Whiterun's "message". After I did that, I thu'uned Ulrich with a three-syllable unrelenting force, power smashed him in the face with my warhammer, potioned, then ran out of the city.

You might be able to do that once you have done the initial quest to "Join" them, but you'd have to actually do at least a couple killings for this to work.
You might be able to skip the companions, but I want to say one of their quest dungeons isn't open until you are with them. And I know for sure the mages and thieves have locked doors you can't open until you've reached a stage in their quests.

Personally, I just decided to not doublecross Azura. She seems to be the only Daedra who is not an ass, that deserves a bit of a reward.
Yes, makes it a bit annoying, always having to go hunt mammoths, but still.

There is at least one other Daedra who is not queen bitch on see you next tuesday mountain, but I forget how I got a quest to help that particular one.

Yeah, I'm not that heavy into RP'ing my character or anything, but I do tend to let the way my character behave generally govern my choices. My sneaky archer is mostly a goody-goody and since Azura isn't really evil, I can't imagine double-crossing her even for a better reward.

Heroic sneak-archers unite! (I'm playing that very same thing, only mine's an Argonian!)
Also, damn this game's soundtrack. I've been humming the theme all effing day. Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin, naal ok zin los vahriin...

The atmosphere was ruined in my game by how bugged the quest is.
(don't buy the house before initiating that quest)
My sneaky archer is an awful person. Chaotic Evil and so forth. Then I downloaded a gleaming white retexture for ebony armor and had to roll a paladin. So that's what I'm playing now.
Now, barging into Windhelm, thu'uning the shit out of Ulfric and then beating him in the face with a hammer until he flopped around on the ground with only his plot armor keeping him alive might not sound very paladin-like.

I... probably should not approve of that. But it's really hard to argue he doesn't deserve it.
They are are okay damage at their level. The Fire one helps activate your bonus damage. The Shock one drains pretty good magicka over an extended period.
Frost is a special case. It's useful at all levels because it procs the awesome and long-lasting frost slow effect without any effort whatsoever. Using it (as a pure mage) I get hit 0-2 times per normal battle and 2-4 per difficult battle, where I used to get hit about twice as much.
Also I believe changing the Star would be, like, Dagon change, not Azura change.
Free the brother from Northwatch keep without just murdering everybody?
I only got two dialogue options: What is this? And will you purty please release the brother?
Both were responded to with sass, so I frenzied the doorman and watched him murder his friends.
I feel there was another way.
I found a woman running around the wild yelling, "wabbajack wabbajack wabbajack." Naturally, I killed her and defiled her corpse.
Dragon fights are usually epic in this game, but I think my favorite ones are when a dragon attacks a town. I was powerleveling smithing by going around to blacksmiths and buying ingots and making daggers. and it was Riverwood's turn. I talk to the town smith (Alvor?) and was just about to buy out his inventory when the fight music started. I hear a dragon fly up and land what sounds like right behind me. So the townspeople and guards all turn out to battle the dragon, and its a great fight. It's landing on buildings, strafing the main street with fire, and generally looking awesome. It finally dies in the center of the street, its bones becoming a monument to the epic battle. I try to go back to the blacksmith, but he's not there. I look around everywhere before I notice a body lying right in front of the dragon remains. Of course it's the smith. I was simultaneously pissed that I lost a vendor NPC, and thrilled that now there is this awesome display every time I visit Riverwood.

you mean the same thalmor who are trying to torture out a fake confession on an illegally detained skyrim native? better question would be whats the best method for killing all of them
but I think theres a backdoor that leads straight to the torture chambers, its a master level lock though

Though I think its a bit strange that for you to get every word in the game you have to be a part of every guild.

Also can we take LAA out of the OP as it doesn't work anymore?

But it is.
Besides, she's the lord of change, she can hardly complain if you change the star.
I thought the official story was that the Dwemer disappeared due to experiments on some artifact.
Or did we get some more lore about this that I'm unaware of?

Some people say that's a coincidence, I say fooey. Never trust a Daedra.

Does that make me a bad person? I mean, it's not like the guy did anything to make me not want to bludgeon him to death
Your husband's body is barely cold you succubus!
edit- actually I think her husband has been dead for a year or so, but still!
I think that's mostly because the Dwemer pretty much told the Daedra to screw themselves in their pursuit of technology.
I know I certainly wouldn't prank a Daedra.
