Online Tax Return Filing

So I'm looking to file my taxes this year, like any red-blooded American, in the most lazy way possible. I don't want to have to get up from my chair. I don't want to have to expend valuable energy grasping a pen or turning pages. So the other day my friend tells me about this fancy new-fangled way of tax filing using your Personal Home Internet Computer Machine. All the young whipper-snappers are doing it these days, apparently. Now, I'm not some computerized math-loving techno-geek, but I'm willing to try new things.

Anyway, let's get down to business. I go to this IRS website, which trusted sources tell me is "the fastest, easiest, and most convenient way to file your income tax return electronically. So easy, over 72 million taxpayers preferred e-file over filing a paper income tax return last year."

What do I find? The IRS doesn't have their own online tax filing service. Instead, they thought it would be better to link to the websites of 4394023 different private tax return websites, most of which probably think it would be much easier to file my taxes if I had ten pounds of viagra to work with.

If anyone here has used this service, what website did you use, and was it quick, easy and painless? Did it charge you an additional fee? And most importantly: should I use it too?

Thanks in advance. I just don't feel comfortable filing my taxes with some random internet company.

Online stuff is easy. I use TurboTax. It costs like 20 or so. Nothing much and it is easy as hell.

Be careful though on the language. Its tricky stuff at times, despite their excellent help.

I've used TurboTax for the past three years without any troubles. I've already gotten this year's refund.

You can check sites like passwird and uh...some others for free coupons to waive the $15 TT charges.

I'm using H&R Block this year, but I need to call the pier 1 I used to work at because for some reason I got a w-2 form from them even though I never worked there in 2006. Says I earned $600!

Unless your taxes are really complex just download the "fill in" PDF forms from irs.gov and mail them in.

If you make under a certain amount of money, H&R Block used to let you file on-line for free. It's good deal.

The nice thing about e-filing is that you get your refund earlier.

And if it turns out that you owe $50,000 in back taxes, well you get big burly men raping your ass earlier too.

I do taxes for the volunteer income tax assistance (vita) program. I did 1 yesterday, and will do 1 for every saturday until April whatever. I didn't actually earn any money of my own last year so I don't have to file.
