Can you get the unarmed skill with say, the Crossbow skills? I read that you lose Unarmed skill bonuses whenever a weapon is equipped, which means . . . I'd have to constantly equip and unequip my crossbow?
I've got to say I'm sick of the regional pricing differences (although I know that's set by the publishers, not Steam). The first time I saw a significant difference was RAGE, which launched here at US$90, and as soon as I saw that I wiped the game from memory and never looked at it again. But now they're all doing it, and Batman's US$100. It's even more of a kick in the nuts when everything's listed in US dollars, so I know the exchange rate's not coming into it. There aren't even shipping costs and such to worry about.
Basically what I'm saying is "Fuck publishers for messing up my favourite game store".
I liked Limbo quite a bit, and would definitely call it a steal at the sale price. It really is all about the ambiance/feel of the game though, and not so much about the gameplay itself. Then again, I don't play many platformers so the gameplay was perfectly fine with me. Watch a video or two and decide whether you like the atmosphere and music and make your decision based on that.
Limbo doesn't play much like Braid. It has a demo. It's a fairly simple platformer for the most part so the main appeal is the atmosphere, though some of the puzzles toward the end are quite fun and brain bendy. It is pretty punishing like a lot of platformers in that you should expect to die a decent amount but it's liberal with checkpoints and fast with respawning so it doesn't get too cheap (most deaths will come from some trial and error moments, not enemies).

Is Limbo worth it? Is it like Braid? I didn't really get into that game.
Aside from being an indie platformer, it has almost nothing in common with Braid. Totally different art style for one, and more of an emphasis on figuring out mechanical puzzles to progress, as opposed to Braid's emphasis on pure Mario-esque platforming with time-dilation mechanics. Braid also has an ostensible focus on story, where Limbo offers no motivation other than "don't die."
Limbo also seems to be a lot more trial and error-based than Braid. Which can turn a lot of people off.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

We got a group of people to play Payday right now?
Cause I'm up for Payday right now!
Also, thanks to the fantastical gent @TPSou who gifted me Payday!
And the dashingly rainbowtastic @Riokenn for giving me Kane and Lynch 1!
But yeah, Payday anyone?
Oh brilliant

Ok cool. One of my problems with Braid was how the developer basically thought he created the mona lisa of video games. Don't get me wrong. Games are art for sure, but this guy had a pretty big head about it and I felt like alot of the stuff in it was taken straight from other games. I didn't really get into the whole emo story either.
@Gaardean sent me a copy of Lead & Gold! Those are two of my favorite metals!
Someday they'll make a Barium & Mercury game just for me
Oh, it totally is. The gameplay is downright brilliant. Some of those puzzles are Portal-level mindfucks. I didn't mind the story, either. I thought it was cute and clever, but not as groundbreaking as the developer seemed to believe.

Man. I paid exactly zero attention to the story in Braid. Kinda feel bad now.
It did look and sound lovely though!
You did it right
The story is poop from a butt
Ok, maybe not that bad, the whole "you can't take back your actions even if you regret them" schtick wasn't necessarily bad on its own, but it's ruined by the prose.
I just can't beat Braid. I don't do time puzzles. It doesn't matter the game, give me a time puzzle, or a time riddle, or something that involves me having to think about time and I become the latest guest star on the Kardasians. I simply can not think that way.
I maintain that Braid is worth playing if for no reason other than that bit at the end. You know, the ending bit. And I don't think that would have worked without the overwrought stuff leading up to it, so I guess I have to forgive the writing.

I'll actually admit that I still haven't finished Braid
I got cock-blocked by a puzzle late game, and I refuse to look up solutions, so maybe I'll get back to it sometime
I loved the gameplay and puzzles in Braid - but I really didn't like the artstyle and I hated the writing and it almost turned me off entirely from the game. I felt like I must be missing something everytime I read something in the game. It was like Alan Wake if every piece of paper you read was written by a freshmen art major.
Limbo really pulled me in though - the atmosphere, the graphic style, I actually left that game wanting more of a narrative. For me I still preferred the puzzles in Braid in their "Aha!" moments, but as an overall game I liked Limbo better...don't regret buying either though.

I did really love the ending. It did the whole "twist" thing really well. Very overwrought and melodramatic, but it worked for what it was.

I also refused to look up solutions. It does a good job of making you feel like both a genius and an idiot when you figure out a puzzle. Which is a hallmark of every great puzzle game.

I looked up the solution to one puzzle and it still haunts me to this day that I did it.

There was one around the third or fourth world where I was stumped for DAYS. I literally sat on Gamefaqs.com hovering my mouse over a link to a walkthru, while debating it in my head. I probably had a 3 empty bottles of scotch nearby and hadn't showered in as many days.
I finally figured it out and realized that I am absolutely fucking retarded.
Or the smarted man in the universe. Or both.
Edit: I should add that the solution finally came to me in an honest-to-god dream. It haunted me, man.

Offtopic, but... Steam suddenly decided to start displaying everything in GMT instead of EST for me. I don't see a timezone setting in my profile anywhere... How do I fix this?
EDIT: Oops, I mean Penny Arcade. The forums. Not Steam. Any ideas?

Limbo has been pretty fun so far, but there are some seriously bullshit parts that require absolute prefect precision timing to do and I loathe that kind of shit in platformers. This part with the mine cart and electrified rails is pissing me off.
Dungeon Defenders. I lost an hour and a half to it at like 3am when all I intended to do was make a character. Thanks again AnteCantelope!
It's not a fair question.
They're all ostensibly tower defense games but they each focus on something so specific that they're almost not comparable at all.
OMD, IMO (I've only played the demo of DD, I'll grant) beats them all hands down for playing alone. It's not even a fair fight.
Sanctum has co-op so that's nice, but it's more of a "pure" tower defense. It plays more like a first person Defense Grid than the more "horde" based TD games like OMD or DD. You set the enemy paths and such with your towers, and it is all very "controlled".
DD is horde based like OMD but from the ground up pretty much ever aspect of it screams "play me with other people". While I understand you can play reasonably solo, it is clearly meant to be played with others and everything from the speed you move to the way traps function is meant to be with others.
Guys. I want to tell you about a game you should buy if you enjoy fun things. Dwarfs!
You start off with a home base and one digger. Diggers generate money by finding treasure, gems, and digging. You'll get more diggers over time. You'll also want to build warriors to help defend your base from monsters. The little guys are pretty self sufficient. They'll go about their business BUT they'll also stumble into trouble. Maybe they'll open up a magma flow or underground lake that you'll need to stop up. Maybe they'll release an evil shaman who will spawn bunches of enemies.
The more diggers that spawn, the more trouble they get in to. It really becomes a battle. I can not recommend it enough.

If you go to their forums, there's a post with addon for showing Group Only, Whislist, etc.... I like it and use it.

You did. Somehow a couple dozen transactions that add up to $300 is easier for me to justify than a single $300 lump tithe to the Newell.

Please note however that this does not make the Crossbow skill any more useful than it already is (which is not very)
