Dear Britain: TOTAL WAR APPRECIATION THREAD

I still feel like Medieval 1 was the best Total War, mainly because of how atmospheric the 2D map and interface was. Leaving the little details to the imagination.
Rome and Medieval 2 were great but they lost a bit of the charm going into 3D.

why do americans think that the british have bad teeth
why is that a thing
Because we generally wait until people are in their teens to give them braces rather than as children, and we are generally less worried about having perfect teeth. I've also heard its from when dentistry became available on the NHS (in the 50s??) that a lot of people stepped forward to get their teeth fixed at a low price and Americans thought "wow, look at all these people with bad teeth!" and it stuck. I can't back that last one up though, just heard it from a teacher once.

Man total war. My first was medieval 1, but it kinda got old after a while; you could feel that the engine was holding the game's ambitions back which were more fully expressed with Rome and Medieval 2. I've played the shit out of the latter two, and may reload Rome to try the europa barbarorum mod at some point; Rome Total Realism felt too bloated and sluggish for my tastes. I've had empire since it first launched but never really played it cause i lacked a proper computer at the time. My thinkpad could probably run it easily on medium settings now, but i've just never bothered playing it yet; need to change that soon.
Napoleon has yet to inspire me to make a purchase, and shogun 2 looks cool but, like the case with empire, I currently lack hardware that could actually run it. If I become taken with empire (finally) what would the impetus be to get napoleon? Is it basically empire's aesthetic reigned in with focused campaigns?
From what little I've played of it, yes, either Prussia, France, or Great Britain, Russia? And three separate Napoleon campaigns, Egypt, Italy, and can't remember
it was fun, definitely worth waiting til christmas sales maybe?

Satans..... hints.....
La Grande Armée called to me. I had to bring enlightenment to those godful Spanish and Portugese!
Noooooo
e: I also did this, but I forgot to let normandy and belgium rebel for the complete set
Holy shit.
I don't think I've had the patience to even beat a long campaign in either of those
DONE.
THAT.
SHIT.
In both. With the hardest difficult on in Rome. I was the Ultimate Caesar!
damn peasants are never happy with anything
fuck that, i did it on medieval: total war
as the danes, no less.
pharezon did i ever tell you how much i love you?

How's Shogun going by the way?
The trailer they did was pretty hilarious.
i am getting much better at it, and progressively less fat angry nerd rage over the vicissitudes of total war
i am enjoying it. contemplating playing it some more before work, because that can make three hours go by like nothing.
Americans saving Europe, as it should be
i'm not sure which one i had more fun with
I love taking the Grande Armée across Europe and fucking shit up. Although, Prussia playin' in Empire is pretty fun too. Fuck COURLAND.
But Shogun 2 is a much better game for being so focused
Naval battles are much easier to manage when people don't have guns and cannons until the very very late game

medieval 1 will always hold a sweet spot in my heart
but my favorite speech i think is one of my generals in shogun
"i do two things before battle, empty my bowels, and inspect my sword. i am, at heart, a practical man, and i advise you to do the same."
why is that a thing
Because every single American can afford to get their children braces and they all visit the dentist twice a year.
Because we generally wait until people are in their teens to give them braces rather than as children, and we are generally less worried about having perfect teeth.
