Civilization 4 - Multiplayer between a Mac and PC on same internet connection?

Hey all, just wondering if it is possible.

My roommate has it for his MacBook Pro and he wants to play with me on my desktop. I'm more of a console gamer, so I just want to make sure this is possible.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, he purchased it through the Mac App store and I would be getting it through Steam. Does that make a difference?

    The game has LAN support anyway, so your Internet connection shouldn't even factor into it.
