Giant Bomb: Psychonauts 2 is probably a thing. Post the news in the thread just in case
Giant Bomb was founded by Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis after the whole Gamespot Kane and Lynch fiasco. It is home to quality journalism, entertaining videos and so much dubstep.
Giant Bomb's staff includes:
Jeff Gerstmann!
Ryan Davis!
Bradley H. Shoemaker!
Vinny Caravella!
Patrick Klepek!
and others, including Alex Navarro and Drew Scanlon!
Whiskey Media is like if the Gawker network wasn't terrible. Hosting tons of different review sites, they're really neat!
The most well-known Whiskey Media site, it was founded by Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis after Jeff got fired from Gamespot because Kane and Lynch is a shitty game. They do quicklooks, the Giant Bombcast, and other various pieces of content that are very good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzhHCOQntZg
The next most popular Whiskey site, Tested is helmed by Will Smith (who sadly isn't all that Fresh) and Norman Chan (Maximum PC and PC Gamer, respectively). They test a lot of dumb shit but it's a really good place to go for tech news and every week they're joined by Gary Whitta for the This Is Only a Test podcast.
Comic Vine is about comic books. I like comics, I'd say check it out if you do too.
Screened is their movie division. Operated by the drummer Alex Navarro and the puppy obsessed Matt Rorie, they write movie reviews.

I am glad this thread is back.
Someday I am going to have the money to subscribe.
Also I have been avoiding a lot of the top 10 discussion because somebody mentioned they do not mind spoiling things in their top 10 videos and I still have a lot of games to play
While making this thread I discovered that Patrick's GB page is basically a Facebook when it comes to photos
so many pictures of him at cookouts and parties

Just to get this out of my system: Now that I've heard some of the podcasts, I'm really not liking their argument against Uncharted 3 for Best Looking Game. Not that I think it should have won necessarily, but when the argument against it is "Well, two years ago there was a different game that also looked good" and the reaction is "Yeah, well, that settles it"... yeesh.
I started watching the Persona 4 endurance run. I held off for a while because I assumed, not being into those kinds of games, that I wouldn't really enjoy it. How wrong I was.
Every part has been great so far, but especially part 6. Holy fuck part 6. I literally had to pause because I was laughing so hard that I couldn't breathe.
I wonder how Brono trigger ER will recover from the crushing defeat they were dealt by Giga Gaia. Hopefully they bounce back or change strategy rather than thinking they need to grind levels. I still wish they'd mix up their teams and try new techs, but I'm still enjoying it and anticipating every episode. I can't wait for twin golems, they're going to get killed so bad! It will be awesome!

Well when your competition is as unique and strong as you and all you're doing is matching what you've done before and not setting a new bar, it's easy to see why they felt another game deserved the award
It's also a side effect of the generation lasting longer than usual. Uncharted 2 dazzled in 2009, in 2011 people had higher expectations and part of the reason they were not met was because of hardware limitations

Well, I don't agree that UC3 merely matched UC2, I think both the graphics and the technical implementation of both fire and water exceed what UC2 had to offer. And for Best Looking Game, I don't see how the argument against a game that looks "fucking phenomenal" can literally be "it's a great looking game but so was Uncharted 2". That's not a flaw in UC3, that's a strength of UC2. I'm not saying anything against the end-result, I think The Witcher 2 was the right winner... not, perhaps, on my computer, but on better ones. But if the argument is "Yeah, the old one also looked good", then the category suddenly becomes Most Improved Graphics From The Last Iteration Of The Franchise and shouldn't Rayman be the clear winner there?
Eh, as I said, I don't mind who won, just disliked the specific argument against it. You couldn't imagine anyone arguing against Portal 2 for best story by going "yeah, it has good writing, but so did Portal 1".

Remember how when they were talking about LA Noire and how, as it looked more and more realistic, it reached its own uncanny valley where unrealistic spots stuck out more?
Exactly how I feel about Uncharted 3, in particular anything having to do with melee. That game looks smooth as butter with wonderful animation until the second you have a fistfight with someone, then the animation turns janky and stilted. I haven't played The Witcher 2, but Rayman Origins and Dead Space 2 both look a lot better and more consistent IMO.
After hearing Patrick's raving about it on the final day deliberation Bombcast, I just checked out the demo for Rayman Origins
I continue to not like that series at all. It looks and sounds fucking wonderful, but for being such a sprightly looking character (dude has no arms or legs!), the movement is just way too sluggish for my taste. Maybe I'm spoiled; the last platformer I got into or gave a shit about was Super Meat Boy, which is pretty much impossible to top.

Do they get into endgame spoiler territory with the final podcast? I still have to finish Saints Row and Skyrim, they're all I care about/haven't finished.
Giant Bomb is my favorite site on the Internet. Everything they put out is immensely entertaining. The subscriber content these past few months has been no exception. I love seeing things like Dave and Vinny play random PC games. But even if there were no subscriber benefits I would sign up anyway because it just feels right to support a place that's probably provided me with the most entertainment the past year. The Persona 4 Endurance Run alone is amazing.
But beyond that they have pretty solid journalistic integrity. Nothing about them seems fake or paid for.
So yeah, just in case you clicked on this thread and wanted a random opinion of the site.

They said almost nothing about any specific storylines or plot points in Skyrim. A bit of the endgame Saints Row stuff is mentioned, but I don't think it was a huge spoiler. Honestly the only big spoiler bomb dropped during the final podcast is related to Catherine, in case you had any interest in that.

Cool, I'm near the end of Saints Row, but Skyrim is the kind of game where I'm going to be doing side stuff for quite a while.
And Catherine hasn't been released in Australia, but it's the kind of game I'd rather hear about than play.
Jeff did well in arguing most of what I feel works against Skyrim, so that was very neat to listen to
All I took away from what Brad said was that no other game does what it does (I disagree with that) and that in the numerous hours he has played, no content was unenjoyable (which was not my experience)
So I am a little disappointed, I suppose. I wish Brad would've been able to say anything bad about the game to put what he liked more in focus. It is hard to say why you liked something past a certain point, but Jeff and Ryan admitting to some flaws and shortcomings of Saint's made me understand their position on the game better. I guess either he is unwilling to address the flaws (without just attempting to debunk them) or I am simply unable to see how every part of that game can truly be considered unflawed by him
or I missed something he said that is also a possibility I mean they talked for a whiiile
I haven't heard Brad say anything bad about Skyrim other than the basic "Hey this patch broke some stuff"
I really think the dude just loves the game. I mean he has played it a crazy amount and is continuing to play it after probably 100 hours. Brad has very odd tastes sometimes but when he loves a game he really loves a game.

Sometimes he gets a bit too internetty for my tastes but most of the time I like him fine.
Also the fact that Trains Vs. Zombies or Family Fued 2012 are not on the Quick Look list is a crime.
