iPod Nano won't charge or sync

It is a 5th gen iPod and I have tried the following: different USB cords, different computers, and even tried it with the wall charger and nothing will make it sync to my iTunes. Also my iTunes is up to date.

The iPod screen lights up when plugged in but it does not charge.

Anyone know anything about this problem?

Have you tried restoring the iPod to factory settings?

No, because even putting it into disk mode, the computer won't register it as a USB device.

As a stopgap (or diagnostic tool), try disabling your drivers for USB 2.0. It should show up under your Device Manager (assuming you are on a PC) under Universal Serial Bus controllers as Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller or something similar (the keyword being enhanced... some drivers show up as USB 2.0, but all the ones that I've seen have used the Enhanced nomenclature). You wouldn't want to run everything at normal USB speeds, but it will at least rule out your USB hub.

It's not my computer because I have tried it in other areas such as a wall adapter and another computer with a different USB cord and it won't work on those either.

I think they meant from the iPod:

    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost.

I have tried that but the problem is still there.
