Just finished a pretty comprehensive upgrade on my desktop, and so far the only issue is I can't get anything, either the BIOS or windows to recognize my old IDE DVD-R. The mobo I got, MSI Big Bang Xpower, doesn't have any IDE slots, so I picked up a couple of of IDE Adapters, figuring I could use them for my old HDDs and just keep them as video storage.
I hooked one up to the DVD drive to make driver installation easier, but I just can't seem to get anything to recognize the drive. Use, I've avoided the common problem of not having a power connection to both the drive and the card, I've tried every mode in the BIOS,both SATA 3Gb and 6Gb ports, both in IDE and AHCI, with and without PCI IDE bus turned on. The adaptors themselves are pretty cheap, they are complete generic with no name on the package, but they look identical to the ones for sale everywhere online.
Am I missing something obvious here? I found one or two things about this mobo not playing nice with optical drives, and really, it's more an inconvenience then anything else, so it's not like I need to go out and bite the bullet and get a SATA drive, cheap though they are.
Shut up Francis. Something about Vietnam. Horseshit.
