Best CMS for... kids?

My eight-year-old has been asking for almost two years now for a website. I think it's about time I make good on it...

What would you suggest for a smart 8-year-old given:
- The software should be free or reasonably priced subscription
- Easy to set up -- I'm thinking initially one of the blogging-type solutions, Will start out with pre-defined template, with the ability to eventualy make his own
- Probably won't start out with a top-level domain (could be a subdomain of a blogging package), but should be easy to eventually migrate to a top-level domain
- Will be used primarily for text posts and general dorking around to get his feet wet, would would be nice if he could also upload videos or at least embed youtube vids
- Would be nice if it could also have the ability to include code for double-click or some other ad serving so that he can eventually learn about monetization

Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Tumblr?

Thanks. I suppose since there are a number of decent-looking ones out there it would make sense to make accounts and try a few to see for ourselves. I never heard of Weebly and I forgot about Tumblr so I'll include both of those, too.

Wordpress is pretty decent. Has a good community and can be customized heavily by people who sort of know what they are doing. Could be a good tool for him to learn some web programming on. "Oh wouldnt it be cool if I could make it do this?" then learn how to do it etc. Or, if not, it works well as just a turnkey CMS as well.

Disable user comments completely if there's an option for it.

What Bowen said. If nothing else, it will stop the constant need to clear a cache of spam comments every few days.

Also you can set up a wordpress site and just give your kid a publisher account for it so that all he can do is upload posts and that way he won't break the site but can still blog.

Having said that, tumblr is your best bet. It's easy to use, customizable, free, and popular. It also integrates nicely with twitter and some of the other social websites.

Tumblr has no comments, but still creates a community through reblogs/tumblr replies, which is pretty neat.
