I'll show you mine if you show me yours [Custom Desktops]
I haven't seen one of these threads in ages and I always loved them when they popped up. I ran a search and nothing came up so here we are!
Show off that pretty lil desktop you got. Maybe you just got the freshest of wallpapers, or maybe you just spent 10 hours creating a skin for rainmeter. Well lets see it then!
Here is mine that I am still working on to kick things off:
Wallpaper is from deadendthrills.com
Theme is rainmeter/Omnimo UI
Trying to find a better widget/icon thingy for weather and I want to find some icons for sc2, spotify and some good ram/hdd icons.
I am rocking it oldschool like. (yes, thats Windows 98 running at actual HW. I set up this PC for some rare gems, especially DOS Glide titles which don't run in DosBox, a Glide Wrapper or in a Virtual machine). I found a neat little programm called 3D color changer which allows you to adjust just every color setting of the Windows default GUI. Should also work in the current versions of the OS, if you disable aero. Sorry if this pic breaks the h-scroll, I will spoiler it, if desired.
Its surprising how much "current" softwareyou can still run on this OS with a few modifications. And it reminds me, how much confort newer OSes provide. While installing I stumbled over following issues:
- installed another mainboard, a 939 with Atlon X2 is to new
- trying to find a DOS medium this computer could boot off > thankfuly I found a custom DOS bootdisk image on the internets because I lack a floppy disk drive
- PCI card juggeling - IRQ conflicts with onboard devices I couldn't disable
- hard drive juggeling - Win 98 didn't seem to like a particular 300GB HD I installed - the HD is working fine but for some reason Win98 can't manage any partition on it, even < 32GB FAT32
- partitioning the drives on another PC / via Linux Live CD because DOS fdisk sucks ass
- finding the correct drivers for my SBLive 5.1 Soundcard and then setteling for onboard (nforce) sound because everything involving Creative OEM/value/bulk cards is/was handled terribly by this company - I tried every install media under the sun / available on the internet. This reminds me why I sweared I wouldn't buy any of their products ever again.
- installing the drivers in correct order or the whole Win98 install blows up
- finding out that the game I wanted to play (Lands of Lore 2) actually runs better on Windows 7 :P, Well at least I have a PC to play 3dfx accelerated Mechwarrior 2 / Extreme Assault
Wasn't much work to set up. Using Rainmeters and some icons I found on DevArt ages ago.
...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

Holy crap guys, I've been wanting a lightweight replacement for Gadgets forever. Rainmeter was exactly what I was looking for, thanks!

Very minimal customization here. Things that changed: Start button edited, clock edited, taskbar moved to top, there's a calendar on the right monitor. Also my wallpaper cycles every few hours so what it is right now is not what it will be soon. The black bars on the screen is just empty space because the the two screens are offset by that much in virtual space. In real life both screens are about the same height and are more or less next to each other.

It's not heavily customized, but it works for me right now.
Indeed it is http://www.vladstudio.com/wallpaper/?mothers_day_tiny_wings/3840x1200
As for the clock, I'm using XWidget with a slightly tweaked version of this widget.

Full size will break your h-scroll so I'm linking it. Here is a scaled down version although it's harder to see everything:
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better

But, man, don't accidentally click on it to zoom in, because then there is no way to un-zoom, or scroll to see the entire image.
Vanilla go!

I can't unzoom it, but I can certainly scroll left/right. Maybe it's a browser thing?
