I've been getting into board games lately, and I find this site extremely helpful, and the commentariat just wonderful people for the most part. I'm a huge game nerd, and I wanted to share some titles that helped me cross-over into my developing board game interest.
1) Heroes of Might and Magic III (PC) A tactical, turn based, "strategy RPG" (light on the RPG elements.) From wiki: Gameplay consists of strategic exploration on the world map and tactical turn-based combat. As with the series in general, the player controls a number of "heroes" who act as generals and command troops comprising various types of creatures inspired by myth and legend. Hot seat multiplayer is a blast too! The grid-based battles are EPIC. <img src=”

2) King's Bounty (PC) Similar to Heroes, but you are not pinned to managing towns. The maps play more like a game board with hexagonal isometric view. I put 200 hours into the game. Manage an army, slowly conquer a game board. The higher difficulties require forward thinking and even a little math :-)

3) Civilization IV (PC) We all know what this is.
4) Fire Emblem (GBA/DS) A hardcore tactical/strategy RPG. There's actually a board game adapation thread on here:

5) Spectromancer (PC) A somewhat MTG inspired card game. You basically use decks of cards and accumulating mana-types to summon creatures and spells. I'll be honest, I play it often, and I'm not even 100% sure of the rules.
6) Advance Wars (GBA/DS) Grid-based like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Tactics, and the ilk, but takes place in a cartoony/modern styled warfare environment. Leaders have powers that can quickly turn the tides of battles. Best with human opponents.
7) Galactic Civilization II (PC) What a beastly and deep game. SO many ways to conquer the galaxy in this 4X turn based strategy
"rpg". (true, it's not an rpg, at all really, but I always role-played when I would play it.) I hope you like micromanaging. Victory is attained through military conquest, cultural domination, universal alliance or technological supremacy.

7a.) Master of Orion II (PC) Looked it up on a recommendation from Mojo_Jojo, and it gives me tingles. Looks like a sweet, 90s, turn based, 4x strat game, similar to Galac Civ II.
8) Of course, there are straight-up board game video game options: Carcassonne and Catan are both on xboxlive, Monopoly is available in all its shitty iterations on almost every platform every created, Uno, Hasbro Family Game Night, etc.
9.) Culdcept Saga (360) Board game/deck building crossover. Excellent fun, had a large cult following.
10.)
Medieval Total War (PC) "both a turn-based strategy game and a real-time tactical combat game featuring massive armies containing hundreds or even thousands of troops" If you've played Shogun TW, this is better. Caveat: it'll feel less board gamey because it does have real time battle, but all those little moving pieces, I took the bait. This game is great, but I had to take it out after some thought. It's got too much real time from what I've seen. I'm really looking for the overall board game aesthetic.
11) Memoir 44, free to play, but you know how that is. It's on Steam and it looks like a perfect match for this list. I dig it, even though I don't usually go for the WWII setting, or aesthetic. Looks like a hexagonal stratego. Immediately made me thing of Uni War
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/uniwar/id311456818?mt=8 on android too. Check them out. Very board gamey!
Add your own, I'm also looking for recommendations to add to the pile! If you've got a good one, I'll totally drop what I'm doing and play it now, no matter the cost!

This is a good list, but I did want to direct your attention to our official board game thread. The OP maintans a really comprehensive list of the best games out there, and we are always up to discuss nearly every aspect of board games and the industry.
Also, you should just play Sword of the Stars or MoO2, as both of those are much better.
Because I've never played it! I just looked at it on Steam via your link. Looks sweet! Wishlisted! Is wishlisting a verb now?
Sword of the Stars had the real time combat which made it less board-gamey, so I didn't add it at first. Then I added Medieval TW, which has RT combat. So I've got a double standard. I just get off on seeing low quality graphics, old art style pieces moving around. :-) Sooo, this MoO2, which I've only heard of, looks sweet as fuck, and it's only 5.99 on GOG for 1 and 2. Worth picking up? (I've put at least 100 hours into GCII).
Thanks, Athenor! I've actually used the board game thread as a resource recently. It's awesome, but I didn't think this list belonged there, and I didn't want to clog up that thread, or upset anyone, since I'm new here. I thought I'd create this little list, and then have it drift into obscurity, like everything else I've ever done.
Do you think I should move it over to that thread?
Carcassone is on facebook as well and I was getting a bunch of milage out of it but they just switced to micropayments as well.
Definetly looking fo strategy type games where you dont have to download anything since I only have access to a shared computer for the forseeable future.
IOS Game Center ID: Isotope-X
As a way to demo the game before buying the real thing, it's fantastic. It looks and plays really good. It records your wins and losses, has a chat interface, and I think even has a replay feature. As a way to play it continually, I'm not sure because I haven't tried to. Board game companies are not USUALLY rapacious in their pricing schemes, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here.

@Bedlam. Yeah, I don't hold my breath for anything announced on Nintendo plats. I've been let down so many times!
This is a hard one. Can you do even tiny downloads?
