"I shot myself in the foot with my wad," is a perfectly cromulent portmanteau-aphor!

It's also what I did in the shower last night...

    Sorry.

In regards to immovable rods stopping planets: (And forgive me if my numbers are a little off, I'm remembering this stuff of the top of my head) The Earth revolves at 900mph. The outer spiral arm of the galaxy containing the earth moves at 40k mph. Considering this, the moment an immovable rod was activated on a similar planet it would either rip off the persons arm, or punch a hole through their chest before either zooming off into space as a dangerous fixed point for any celestial object to encounter it, or punching a rod shaped hole in the planet. Since we know this does not happen, it must be assumed there are magical contingencies that account for the gravitational and magnetic forces of planetary objects on which the immovable rod is currently located. So, the moment it came in contact with a new planet it would thereby switch to that planet's gravitational, rotational, and revolutional forces. If the players were not themselves on the planet when they happened, it would, form there perspective, be whisked away by the planet, out of their reach.

And that bitches, is how you DM

    Peace out.

i believe it was an exaggeration by saying planet and it was actually one of the planetoids the players were leaping from in that one encounter he posted, which were substantially smaller

    What the hell?

I just noticed in this ep that Jerry is a hunt and peck typist.

Holy crap. Man, they're about my age, and typing shit got hammered into our skulls in school growing up. How did he manage to avoid that?

How does he manage to type out those long ass posts all the time typing like that?

    Good lord I'd go insane.

This was a cool episode, but I'm curious how and when they came to the decision to make it an arc.

He's not really hunting before pecking: he's got the layout memorized and can type pretty damn fast with just the index fingers. I do it as well so I'm saying from experience.

This is my "technique" as well. Every post of mine you read on these forums was typed that way (and I can be pretty damn long-winded), all of my academic papers in college, etc.

Yeah I'm at the point where I can type very quickly but I really only use my index and middle fingers. I've tried to retrain myself to use all of them and rest on the home row and all that crap but I think I've been doing it the other way entirely too long.

I don't doubt he knows the layout, it's just the name for the type of typing.

It's just impossibly inefficient. Prior to learning how to type using all my fingers I thought I could type fairly fast using that method but man, in retrospect...so bad.

Ten fingers and blind, then again, part of the reason I'm getting paid is because I type fast. You don't want to know how much extra time I'd need at work if I were to write everything the "old man staring at buttons"-way.

I feel like they've mentioned before that their high school didn't have a computer lab while they were there. Not entirely sure of that, but I seem to remember it.

There were these things called typewriters before computers came along. It's how - and stick with me on this - letters and documents got typed up onto pieces of paper.

Immovable rod, huh? I wonder if it was also indestructible?

  • jackaljackal Fuck Yes. That is an orderly anal warehouse. Registered User regular
If every part was immovable it would stand to reason that it would be indestructible. It's my understanding that they only hold 8,000 pounds which even a small planetoid would greatly exceed.

Haha I love discussions on whether it makes sense for magic to do something, especially when it gets down to physics.

If magic abided by physics, it would be science. That's why it's magic- it totally breaks the laws of physics! Suspend disbelief when playing a game based on magic, people!

Also, I am loving these 4th panels. Seeing the creative process in action is amazing... and usually also frightening. :P

Oh man. You hunt and peck typers who say you type well - you mean 60-90wpm just casually without thinking about it?

I mean, technically, it's just "peck".

I generally type the same way, having progressed on my own from hunting and pecking to rapidfire index finger gymnastics. Although, I generally let one or two other fingers join in on the very penumbra of my typing hotzone.

    85+ WPM, here.

Probably more back when I did online text-based RP with big paragraphs in four different windows at a time.

My typing is basically focused on my use of WASD. Give me an ergonomic keyboard and I can't type for jack.

Yeah, i'm younger than G&T by probably around 7-10 years or so, and while the schools I went to had computer, we were never require d to pass typing tests on them (though we were required to learn cursive, lying fucks for saying it would be useful). As it stands, I type fairly fast using my index, middle and ring fingers while only needing to occasionally glance down at the keys, and I don't even do that if I'm really absorbed in something.

  • IvarIvar Oslo, NorwayRegistered User regular
I had a typing class when I was 14 or 15. There were computers in that school, but we used typewriters. Got pretty fast by learning touch. I guess ~10 years of IRC helped a bit as well...

  • AurichAurich ArizonaRegistered User regular
Cursive and proper typing are things I'd completely forgotten about. In... third grade we totally had this hardcore typing class as part of our curriculum, and you needed to pass it to go on to fourth. It was spr srs bsnss. Got a diploma and everything.

Now, though! Man. I don't peck, but my fingers stray from home with glee.

Love the 4th panel, especially the DnD episodes they allow me to relive my highschool years playing the game without the time travel, now if only i could find a group that looks as fun as theirs is.

I just use a few fingers to type. I've never held a job where I had to type fast, so I guess it's never been a problem?

Yeah. The hunting slows you down way more than the pecking, so if you have the keyboard's layout embedded in muscle memory you're pretty much set.

Anyone else at all curious about the structure (or lack of observable one) of this season so far? Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying these 4th panels, but I'm also craving some more conceptual/narrative episodes like what we got in season one and two. "weddings" has been the only non-pax original creation so far. I wonder if they had this planned all along, or if there just isn't enough stuff happening to keep generating fresh ideas every other week or wuuuut?
