4 yr old son stuck on level 10 shylander

I am writting for help on getting past end of level 10 in skylander wii for my 4 yr old. He is completely enthrawled with the game and is frustrated on how to finish this level. All I know is that after defeating 2 foes a pulley allows a wooden gate to lower and unsure where to go next. A portal is apparent on an elevated ledge that we cannot get to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
