Ever since I replaced my rear drums and shoes 2 weeks ago, my car makes an "airplane propeller noise" that sounds as if it is clearly coming from the back end. The noise gets louder and higher in pitch with increasing speed and is independent of engine RPMs.
Sounds like a wheel bearing has gone out!
I had my GF drive around while I stuck my head in the trunk to figure out where the noise was coming from. Sounded like the passenger side wheel well, which was convenient. When I was working on the breaks, the bearing on that side felt a little "grainy."
I replaced the offending wheel bearing but THE NOISE IS STILL THERE!
What else could this noise possibly be? On the neon, there isn't anything back there moving besides the wheel bearings and the wheels themselves.
Yeah I would most assuredly say it's something with the brakes, and I know about jack shit about cars. Bearings usually make a terrible grinding noise and vibrate the shit out of a car.
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
Could be he didn't properly adjust the shoes before putting the drums back on. I have done that myself and it makes a god awful sound. Did you replace shoes and drums or did he turn drums? When you put the drum on it should be a tight fit but not so tight you have to beat it on.

While I started the brake job, I ended up having my mechanic finish it because I ruined one of the wheel cylinders.
What in the breaks could be making that kind of noise? Maybe the shoe is rubbing slightly on the drum intermittently?
Does the sound go away as you turn?
