Space Station Tycoon for Wii

IGN just revealed what looks to be an amazing game, due out this summer:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/768/768580p1.html

Finally, a PC-style game for a console. The Wii is perfect for this stuff, hopefully we'll see more. Spore, perhaps?

Oh man. For a second there I thought the thread title was "Space Station 13 for Wii"

    Le sigh.

And I thought the IGN page read:
    Space Channel Silicon Valley.

    Triple Sigh.

And to remain on topic, I think the game looks charming.

When I read the review, I really appreciated IGN's persistance regarding the originality of the game. At first I thought IGN was rude, but then I remembered Trauma Center and Prince of Persia. Wii games need a lot of clarrification regarding their state of "port-ness".

This reminds of how the Wii is pretty much the first console ever that could successfully do an RTS game. I just hope some developer out there thinks the same thing.

Sounds neat, but my only real reservation is that the space stations don't really look very...space stationish...

    Yes, very cartoony.

Still looks good. It seems that they are going for Wario style hi-res sprites for some of it.

I don't know, I hope the art style improves. The seagull and the pirate ship look a bit homebrewish or flash-y to me.

At first glance, which is the only glancing I did, this looks an awful lot like Outpost Kaloki X on the 360 arcade.

'Space Station Tycoon' eh? Could they have chosen an even more bland, generic, me-too name for this kind of game? A name that, after the hausse of sub-par pc tycoon games following the succes of transport- and rollercoastertycoon, screams 'budget-title' imho. The description and screens look interesting though; i'll be watching this one.

If you read the article, you will discover that the same people are making this.

Is the XBLA game any good?

Touche, Cassamassina. I didn't believe you when you said some awesome things were coming out for the Wii. But now we get Wii Sims, and a freaking Space Station Sim?

Lord, let Cassamassina be truthful! If this is the start of the trend, them I'm glad I'm a trendy bitch.

If this game turns out to be even remotely good, it's a purchase.

    EDIT

    Horrible interview on IGN's part.

"You've traditionally been a PC developer. Why develop for the 360 and Wii now?"
*Uh, no. We've been developing console games since the original GameBoy.*

Apparently, going into an interview blind is the new integrity.

I only played the trial version of Outpost Kaloki X, but I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to this, hopefully they will add enough to it to make it worth 50 bucks.

It can totally work if the style is cartoonish, but to expand a little on my only beef, I don't really get why the space stations aren't really...space stations. They seem to be buildings and islands floating in space. Like you could easily just plop them down in the water and call the game Ocean Port Tycoon...

Reminds me of that flash based adventure game that's been floating around recently, the one with the awesome soundtrack. Just mounds of crap on top of space fairing animals and rockets.
