Digital supplement to D&D campaign

Hey folks, I'm running a D&D campaign. We can only meet once a week to play, and only for 4-5 hour sessions. I'd like to speed things up by providing some out-of-session content. Perhaps additional town details, some maps, shop inventories, possibly even player to player interaction, or NPC interactions that wouldn't lead to combat. Google Wave would have been good for this, but she sank. Do any of you utilize anything like this? What works for you? What doesn't? I know we can email or use some kind of chat, but email threads are messy, and due to our chaotic schedules, getting us all in on a chat isn't an option. Something persistent would be best.
