because I mean if you're gonna use a name like Weather Wizard why even try to cool it up, why not go full-on lightning bolt robes and pointy hat and beard of thunderclouds and staff what has a perpetual tornado whirling on the tip

you might be right, hey
generally i don't think it works to change the ridiculous names but it does mean there's no salvaging something like Captain Cold
They also changed up the Speed Force in a way I really like
basically it is no longer this nebulous thing that powers all Speedsters and is also Speedster Heaven or whatever the fuck it was
it is basically the realm of time and the timeline of Earth
Flash is, essentially, its antibody
It powers him and grants him superspeed and he protects Earth and makes sure everything is going alright
He also serves as a generator for it, so everytime he runs he keeps the Speed Force going. He's basically a renewable energy source for it.
yeah, this is better

In my ideal Batman comic series Freeze would show up rarely. He'd have trusted Bruce Wayne once only to be fooled. And thus he is a hermit who spends his life in research & admiration.
But Freeze is but a man, he needs help but can't trust anyone. So he begins stealing as to funnel money secretly into researchers. He starts threatening scientists who are leaving the scientific world to keep researching. Freeze steals equipment and funds.
And you focus on the tragedy of a man without empathy locking himself away from a world he still desperately needs.

I want more stories of Batman tackling regular criminals and crime families
maybe the Ventriloquies or the Black Mask could be involved, I don't know
but Batman v. gangsters is so under-used now, and I think there are still plenty of great stories to be told there

fucking, make in intertwined with the super-villains, somehow
a henchman from Two-Faces crew says "fuck this guy", leaves him with a bunch of other people
they don't join up with anyone else, start doing jobs by themselves, other henchman start joining them
a villain tries taking them down, but they're too powerful now. They're the people who actually did the legwork, they know how to get shit done
now suddenly there's a brand new criminal organization in town that uses the collective experience of a half dozen supervillains and Batman's gotta stop it

He broke out and got his hands on the Infinity Gems for a while but was stopped by all of the Avengers squads teaming up and he himself not being really ready to cope with that sort of power
since then I think he was either locked up again or is in a coma
batman suddenly finds it's really hard to be the world's greatest detective when his enemies do not employ laughing gas or riddles or giant mutant plants

they don't have a leader, they're completely decentralized, they just work shit out among themselves
they have no grand plan more complex then "commit crimes, make money"
so they're almost impossible for batman to take down
yup
that one guy who originally left is going to be the focus of the story, but definitely not the leader
it'll be more about how he doesn't want the main spot, doesn't want to become the big man, and that's why the others don't turn on him and he can just gather his wealth and watch this thing he helped make grow
apparently the original New 52 pitch for Green Arrow was by an unannounced, but supposedly prominent, writer that cast Ollie as a dude who was fed up with all of the supervillains and bullshit in Star City so he tackles crime the only way he knows how: with a bow and arrow. Presumably he was either a sport archer or kept the shipwrecked story.
instead we got JT Krul writing Ollie Queen as NOTSteve Jobs, making qPads and qPhones and going up against the "Jersey Shore of supervillains".
Yes that is an actual quote from the solicit.
Fuckin' DC.

Sorry, forgot about his attempt at the gems. So guess he's just shelved until needed? Which is fine. All Dark Reign stuff needs to go away.
My girlfriend bought the first collection and gave it to me when she finished. I liked it alright. The writer does a good thing of depicting the mental state of people who have been through a traumatic event.
Though I'm not really sure where the story is headed. Though it isn't hard to guess there will be Lovecraftian stuff.

So with the money made on Friday, Avengers should have pulled ahead of The Dark Knight for the #3 all time domestic box office. (Avatar and Titanic are probably too far away though.). Potentially getting the #3 worldwide spot as well, beating out one of the Harry Potter movies.
I wonder if Dark Knight Rises will be able to take the #3 spot back.
Also, it's a little crazy that in the past, oh.. 14 years, comic books went from being a niche thing to holding the #3 and #4 spots on the top 10 highest domestic grossing movies of all time.
Yes they have. Batman came out in 1989 and was hugely popular. That was 23 years ago, not 14. Where did this 14 number come from anyway? Comic book movies have been making hundreds of millions of dollars since the 70s.

regular men v. superhero, etc.
I love a good ol' fashion detective story with disguises, Tommy guns and a batarang.
superman for social justice and batman against the mob

being in love with her because she is beautiful and frozen and unattainable
and wanting to freeze the world to make it perfect like she is

well he tried to get the infinity gems but the avengers stopped him and now he's back in jail

it's about not wearing a mask, not having some fancy crime persona
it's about regular people doing incredible thing by banding together
those incredible things are also hurtful, dangerous and criminal, but they're incredible non-the-less
