Capacitors and Voltage

I am trying replace several capacitors on a circuit board for a pc monitor.

Getting exact voltage matches for the capacitors is proving a little difficult.

A local computer repair guy said I could go up higher on the voltage as long as it is not to extremely high. For example I need a 1000uf v10 capacitor but he was suggesting I could use a 1000uf v25 instead.

Does anyone know if this idea carries water?
