My guild has decided to make the big jump to voice comunications. And sadly somewhere in the midst of the frenzy I got nominated to set up the server. This is a slight problem becuase I have no clue how to get started beyond download vent/ts. Can somebody please give me some advice as to how I should go about getting this set up?

For your purposes you're probably better off sticking to Ventrilo:

    http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

The members of your guild (and yourself) would all download the client program, but only you would download the server applications. Hopefully you're well acquainted with the logistics of that already, and as such realize you need to manage potential issues with routers and firewalls accordingly. If not feel free to ask for clarification.

This outlines the setup for the server, which is incredibly simple. Once it's up and running, you'll just setup the client program:

    http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php#Client_Installing

And once it's installed you can follow the steps under "Quick Setup" and you'll be on your way.

I understand that I wasn't as thorough as I could have been, but most of this is pretty simple stuff. But with that said, just ask some specific questions and I'm sure someone will help you.

the text to speech option will always be fun.

It seriously doesnt lose its entertainment value.

Don't forget to read the Ventrilio license.

It's not freeware. I couldn't use it for the Sexy Beasts Warcraft guild because you contractually have to pay for more than 8 people using it.
