Being Human is a TV show about vampires and such but
wait! This one's good. Unless you're watching the Canadian remake. Then it's eeh. The proper original version is a comedy/drama/horror bowl of good TV time.
Like the setup to a dirty joke, a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost share a flat and try to live a normal life. That didn't last very long though, because as we all know, vampires are assholes.
The dark and broody one up there is Mitchell, and he is obviously the dark and broody vampire. But he's actually a nice mellow guy who is not at all dark and broody. He's sort of the 'leader' of the group, being nearly a hundred years old, he's got plenty of knowledge about the supernatural and tries to keep George and Annie out of trouble. He's not great at it.
The nerdy looking one is George, he's a werewolf! He's pretty cool. He hasn't been a werewolf long, and finds the idea pretty terrible. He mostly refuses to accept the werewolf side of his life and acts as if his time of the month happens to someone other entity that isn't him. This whole 'live as normal people' thing started as a way of Mitchell protecting George from the grim world of the supernatural, since vampires are assholes and regularly beat on werewolves for no reason. Mitchell felt sorry for the guy, and a bromance was born.
The ghost looking one is Annie, she's a ghost. The first series is largely about her death, what caused it, and how she dealt with it as a ghost. The afterlife doesn't like her very much. She can do all kinds of cool ghost things, like teleport, talk to other supernatural things like George and Mitchell and... that's about it!
Nina isn't pictured because she started off as a guest and therefore doesn't get to be in promos I guess! George's girlfriend, she exists solely to have bad things happen to her.
There are other characters! Antagonists mainly, because it seems the whole world is out to ruin our heroes lives - primarily Herrick, a sort of short ginger vampiric modern day Hitler type dude who thinks vampires are ubermensch and fails to see how utterly mediocre he is. He's the leader of the vampires and has a lot of fun torturing the gang for giggles.
Watch the show! If you're unfortunate enough to not be English then I'm sure there's some alternative - some crazy ass nega variant of BBC that airs over in Americaland. Wikipedia tells me some strange device called 'Netflix' has the whole thing! Alternatively you could watch the remake (don't do this).
The new 4th series starts here tomorrow night on BBC3, and features a 2/3 new cast!
Tom, a badass naive vampire hunting werewolf guest star in Series 3 is now a badass not very naive vampire hunting werewolf main character with his own teaser trailer and everything!

And a totally new guy, Hal. He's a vampire, here to balance out the ratio, since series 3 was all werewolves all the god damn time.

Also a prequel scene, I guess! This is a sort of summary of everything that happened to Tom in series 3, so it's laden with spoilers for his story. But... I am getting a sort of reboot vibe now - sort of like Series 5 of Doctor Who. This might be designed to bring people up to speed on who the guy is so they could start with series 4 or something.

Will it be as good with a mostly new cast? I dunno! But if I had to have picked one of the original 3 to keep, it wouldn't have been Annie!

Kadith, Being Human's werewolf rules are the lunar cycle deal. You'd only be fuckin' bitches one night a month! The rest of the month would be beastiality.
Yeah uh
I was gonna watch this tonight but I guess I don't have to anymore
Thanks for spoilers, DRX
I did. George as a character is just painful to watch.

OH wait this isn't the video game music thread.
Shit, except that Herrick thing.
Edited it anyway. But trust me man, those details were the equivalent to saying "Walt cooks meth in season 2 of Breaking Bad!"

Also a real hero.

Now Lost Girls, that's a show I can get behind. Syfy started airing it from the start and i am hooked. Way to go, Canadian tv!
One.
One month a werewolf 'cheats' the wolf by sedating himself during the change, and spends the following few weeks raging out the wolf's pent up aggression. He beats the shit out of a condescending boss!
The concept for the show originally had no supernatural element, they were just people with social problems. The vampire was a sex addict, the werewolf had anger management issues, and the ghost was an agoraphobe. The whole monster angle came in to provide a story arc.
The most appropriate response.
Everytime I see the title "being human" this song pops into my head

That don't cut it. I'm gonna need him killing children with his bare hands, murdering people for perceived slights and a boss nick name to make up for a vampire and a ghost with lady troubles. In short, I'm not gonna seek this out and now I'm just talking about berserkers of old.
So. It's equal parts silly, bad, clever and good.
And the Terminator style story is all too American for me.
But; breaking the established werewolf rules was awesome.
But I'm enjoying it enough to keep watching
I find a lot of things predictable
Like, the big reveal in episode...2? 3?
Oh wait, yes I did, from the very beginning
I don't think predictability is much of an issue in the original - the characterization makes it, not the storyline. The heavier emphasis on the story arc is what weakens the remake (and Series 4 so far. )
Which is nice
The dude who plays the Werewolf is pretty cool and I like that character quite a lot.
Canadian version. Same difference. It's on Syfy.
Ain't great.
Like he just swanned around being kind of angsty and brooding. An angsty, brooding Vampire, how original
Actually I liked the episode where he
He was downright cheerful, really

I had not seen that! It does seem like a refreshing change though, which I can appreciate.
Because if supernatural dramas aren't your style then I can understand that, but if you think the writing on Being Human is any less than top notch then I just don't know if you're capable of enjoying anything.
But yeah, Series 4's first couple episodes stumbled, and when 2 episodes are a quarter of what we're getting for a year, that's not a good thing. They weren't particularly funny, and the end of the world drama was waaay too (for lack of a better term) American for me.
Third ep was great though. The Gothic Lady Gaga was hilarious, and Annie specifically mentioned how Tom and Hal are not a family like George and Mitchell were, but they're getting there. That's what I want from Being Human! More character development and hating on the Real Hustle, less God Baby.
