Automated computer calling my moms house asking for me. Doesn't say what for seems shady..

I don't even live there anymore and haven't used that number for my contact in years; however, a computer keeps calling asking for me by first and last name. I try calling the number they give back and it is just as shady by not saying what company they are. Just says Thanks for you're attention please enter the number that you were called from. I tried reverse look up and unlike other collection calls I got on my cell for the wrong person this one shows nothing. Just a blank wiki for the page. If I call back and enter that number whoever it is will have a confirmation that it is me. As far as I know I don't owe anyone any money.

It could be an old debt that was sold off to a third party parasite company, or it could be a scam to try and make you think you owe money.

Did you ever owe on a debt, and pay it off after it went to collections, or right around that time? Sometimes when that happens a company has already purchased a block of numbers/associated debt and try to collect on it anyway.

If you honestly do not owe a dime to anyone and you're sure of it, get an attorney and have them send the company a notice to stop calling you.

Another thing it could be is that a lot of the bottom feeder garbage debt collection companies will contact people that happen to have the same name as you, but is a completely different person.

Other than that, it could just be some fuckup in a database at some giant company that uses automated calling. Without knowing who the hell it is, there's really not much you can do other than be irritated. If it gets bad enough you could lodge harassment complaints with your local PD, after like 5-10 complaints you can get a lawyer and do a real trace on the number to track them down. But, you know, :effort:

Just tell them every time there's no one by that name at this number.

Guessing it's her land-line? Can she block that number? Tell AT&T or whoever that she's being harassed.

Don't forget to file a complaint with the FTC. You don't even need to be on the do not call registry to complain if they're using a recorded message. Won't make the calls stop, but whenever they get around to processing the complaints they'll tack on more fines.
