The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Coincidentally, a military veteran from Springfield with explosives training, Walter Umenhoefer, was at the scene scoping a potential manufacturing site for his employer.[1] Umenhoefer later told The Springfield News reporter Ben Raymond Lode that he had warned Thornton that the amount of dynamite he was using was very wrong—too little to disintegrate eight tons of untamped carcass, too much to simply push it off the beach. Umenhoefer said Thornton was not interested in the advice. However, by an odd coincidence, it was Umenhoefer's brand-new Oldsmobile that was flattened by a flying chunk of blubber after the blast. He told Lode he had just bought the Ninety-Eight Regency at Dunham Oldsmobile in Eugene, during the "Get a Whale of a Deal" promotion.[1]
Board game night last night was really weird. We had a great game of Indonesia (which is seriously one of the better games ever) and then got going on Sceptor of Zavindor.
The thing was one of the regulars had a friend (?) with him who, despite being repeatedly invited, wasn't actually playing any games. He was just sitting watching drinking a six pack of natty ice. We ended up calling the game of zavindor early because he was getting really weird and creepy.
gingers need to be reminded that they're not people.
Lately I've become genuinely concerned that's going to evolve from ironic to serious discrimination and persecution.
There was that famous experiment where an elementary school teacher was like "you guys should discriminate against the kids with brown hair" and the kids did and they were nasty to the brown-eyed kids and the brown-eyes started getting bad grades.
Sorry I missed out on the great AD&D discussion, but I completely agree that the permanent injuries from critical hits in 1st ed made it the best ruleset ever.

So I'm trying to get myself psyched for the 24 hours of LeMons. I will be driving an 1987 Yugo GVX. Perhaps the worst car ever made.
I prefer to think of HPs as "your skills only get you so far before you get fucked" when I DM. HPs as a literal this-is-the-lifeforce-you-have-remaining thing never made sense to me from the beginning so I invoked the golden rule and fudged the shit out of it :P
Like people will, depnding upon how much damage they take, either manage to deflect, dodge or have the damage absorbed by armor (no damage), to small cuts, bruises and abrasions (small amount of damage), take a glancing blow, fairly serious cut, break something that won't physically hinder them (fair amount of HP loss) or possibly take damage that is severe and will almost assuredly hinder them in some way (losing half or more of their HP from a single atttack). Then when they drop below zero is when shit gets, as they say, real damage-wise. And if drops them to dead dead you get into stuff like decapitation, arrow through the skull, crushed skull, flesh incinerated etc
Granted this can get tiresome to deal with as a DM but I figure fuck it, DMing in general can be pretty tiresome and it's more fun then just "roll-dice, subtract points, next?"
I've also experimented with keeping all the actual damage points done under wraps and relying on descriptions of the attacks to let them know generally how fucked up they are but not specifically and, since I explained the above ahead of time, it actually went pretty well. However I had a pretty laid back group of players when we tried this, I can see it going horribly wrong with certain kinds of players.
Don't hate me, but it turns out I can't afford it time wise and financially. I am going to portland for three days tomorrow morning, and I just cant do two trips.
I thought I could, but my schedule got crazy busy next week and I need the weekend to catch up on grading and writing lectures, especially since I won't be able to this weekend.

Have I mentioned that you are the worst lately?
Just in case I haven't: you are the worst.
That sucks, broheim. See you this summer, maybe, then?

On the one hand, awesome
on the other hand why does this take so long

I can't argue the convenince of six hours but, there is somethin just so epic about a game this long.

Such a great show. One of the best police procedurals ever. I love it; it's like NYPD Blue meets Arrested Development.
Darn, even my alt-255 trick doesn't work

Very true. As they the same as whale sharks?
There's a big aquarium in Japan that has one in a tank, which would blow minds.

Was disappointed when it was cancelled.
