Yeah I guess that is an element that Superman lacks. I guess he's also just that extra bit patriotic and Problematic for me I mean his name is ... Captain America.
He even gave up the Captain American name in the 70s after becoming disillusioned with the american government.
These days he's very specifically portrayed as someone who embodies the American ideal, rather than some sort of spokesperson or representative of the american government.

i feel like Waid portrayed Cap as someone unwilling to kill in his run in the 90s though I might be misremembering.
i think comparing cap's unwillingness to kill his enemies to what's going on in new avengers is unfair, too
the moral they're asking steve to compromise is killing an entire world's worth of people to save their own. mostly innocent people, even
that's a fucked up line to cross, even if it seems necessary. that's cap's whole point
With the additional fact that he's worried that
The killing option will be the easier and they'll fail see less terrible alternatives
Honestly I think everybody who is cheering the Illuminati smacking down Cap are going to be pretty sad when this story resolves. Especially considering how the alternate universe Reed story ended in FF.
Sent the stones away, he was wearing the Gauntlet, he could do anything
Me too.
I assume he was worried about the Gauntlet's abuse and did something that would allow him to summon the gauntlet if it came to it but convince the Illuminati to work on other solutions.

Actually its a bit larger then that
the worlds colliding destroys both realities. Thats how Hyperion was floating in a blanked out universe. the Illumanti realize this and also realize that they have to have the option of destroying one earth to protect that reality as well as our own.
Caps morals aside he's treating everyone else as if they can't understand the weight of what it is they are considering and like Mr. F. said that's straight up insulting.
He found the amulet at the end of he issue. They haven't shown what happened to Chris Powell yet, but neither he nor Juston are X'ed out on the credits page yet.

oh yeah no i understand the threat described in the book
and reed's reaction to cap's refusal to budge is completely warranted
just that rooting for like cap getting taken out of the group or something is weird since while someone might be sick of high and mighty steve, his stance on this issue is... pretty understandable. it's a fucked up thing, and cap doesn't want to compromise this point so easily because he's afraid they'll miss the better solution by doing it
You download the Marvel AR app on your smartphone, which scans the page and then plays the content on your phone. It's pretty neat. It even works when you're scanning pages on a tablet!
So how good or bad was the first issue of the new Secret Avengers series?
I decided to be the canary in the coal mine and picked it up.
It's....not bad. Not particularly mind-blowing, but decent I guess. It's certainly a departure from the previous series, and given how many great Avenger books there are right now this isn't quite in that tier. I might read another issue or two but it definitely didn't jump to the must buy list.
What’s most likeable about it is that it’s a tight, concise, balanced team. The cast is small, Spencer introduces them efficiently, and within the confines of an editorial mandate, he makes the book tense. Hawkeye does not get the long end of the stick in this issue, and it’ll make you cringe.
Meanwhile, Luke Ross is enjoying himself, bringing a fairly cinematic sense to the book. Like this interchange:
Ross doesn’t get much of a chance to show off: This book is mostly dialogue. But it’s a hint of things to come.
Calling this an Avengers book seems a bit of a stretch, but that’s not for lack of talent on display. If Spencer can keep up this pace, this will be a great espionage book.

Adam Kubert was labeled as the artist for all of Avengers #6 but I swear the Shang-Chi/Captain Universe stuff was a ghost penciller compared to the Tony/Spidey/Bomb Boy/Solar Flare stuff, just the faces and how the panels were structured.
Can I just say I really dig the little nod to tumblr in the summary page of Young Avengers. Also "Hawkeye: Not the hawkguy".

if anyone else is reading Avengers Arena
Who else thinks that Katy/Apex has some ability to control technology, and that's how she's both using Deathlocket to do her dirty work, and also possibly what happened to Juston's sentinel and Darkhawk. I'm definitely getting scheming mastermind vibes here.
I thought the Avengers Academy kids were the ones at risk of becoming supervillains, and yet the Braddock Academy kids seem more bad then good.
I'm digging Cullen and Anachronism though. I can't wait to find out what Bloodstone's abilities are.
Yeah the first part of your post is totally what I am expecting. And I love the Braddock Academy kids. Bloodstone and Anachronism are a great duo and Kid Briton is an entertaining ass.
You just know that Bloodstone is going to end up being a crazy badass. I assume he'll either be a crazy monster hunting badass like Elsa Bloodstone or he will be a monster himself.
Also, in the Kid Briton flashback did anyone else notice that the kid he was picking on started to transform into something? It was odd that nothing came of that.

the opposite of what you might think he was, very anti-jingoism

I had to pick up the Leinil Yu variant cause the regular cover was so bad.

Oh! Really? I had no idea. That went right over my head.
This statement holds true even if it had only been 5 minutes since the last issue came out!
It basically read like a much better version of that Xorn/Guardian issue Bendis wrote where Alpha Flight died.
