Runners, to me! Bring your music!

After an extended Southern Summer/La Nina Winter of pizza and beer, I'm back on the run and no level of shame or cholesterol shall thwart me! Rec me your favorite running songs! For context, I run 3-4 miles a go, 5-6 mph depending on how much of a gut I've got (in this case, a healthy one). I tend towards hard rap and rock over more techno/dancy stuff, but I am an outgoing and saucy fellow unfraid of the gagas of the world.

So what say you, foot stampers? What songs do you love heartily for your...uh..heart, in 2012 and beyond?

Love me some music for my long distance running. I find consistency to be most important followed by tempo. You need music going hard and the whole time if you want to use music to help or else you'll probably find yourself slowing during intros/outros. (I actually crop mine out for my running playlists if I like the song enough.)

    To that end:

Atreyu : Falling Down, Becoming the Bull, Slow Burn (good call Trace)
Avenged Sevenfold: Almost Easy, Nightmare, Welcome to the Family
    Disturbed: Warrior, Serpentine,
Five Finger Death Punch: Bad Company
Flogging Molly: Queen Anne's Revenge, Tobacco Island, Devil's Dance Floor
Good Charlote: Break Apart her Heart, Victims of Love, The River
Linkin Park: Papercut, Crawling, In the End, Bleed it Out, What I've Done
    Lostprophets: Rooftops,Everybody's Screaming
Rise Against: Prayer of the Refugee, Wait For Me, A Gentleman's Coup, The Dirt Whispered, Reeducation
Sick Puppies: Just about everything in Tri-Polar is amazing for running
Skillet: Hero, Monster, Awake and Alive
Sum 41: The Hell Song, Over my Head, Jessica Kill, The Jester, Blood in My Eyes, Sick of Everyone
Three Days Grace: Wake UP, Drown, Take Me Under, Life Starts Now, Riot, Never Too Late
Dropkick Murphys: Gonna be a Blackout Tonight, Time to Go, As One, Fightstater Karaoke, Flannigans Ball, I'll Begin Again, Shattered, Johny I hardly knew ya, The Walking Dead, The Burden

This is mostly my hard rock stuff that I use for running painful speeds and distances. I do kind of recommend trance/slow techno for your easier days as it helps just moving along. Anyway, hope this helps.

    Some of my favorites:

    Eminem - Run Rabbit Run
Muse - Map of the Problematique
    B.o.B - Magic
    B.o.B - Beastmode
Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief

Most of them fit either rap or rock to some extent at least.

80s montage type music works for me...

The Final Countdown, She's a Maniac, Eye of the Tiger, and You're The Best are good ones.

Don't know why I didn't think of this, but either of the Sleigh Bells' albums would work.

I love this record. I got to see Fugazi back in...1993. One of the best shows.

I recommend anything Fat Boy Slim. Its usually all I ever listen to while running. Flogging Molly is another really good suggestion.

Excellent responses, folks. Thank you! I've been camping spotify and iTunes a bit this weekend with your suggestions, slowly repopulating my running playlist.

I'm partial to the Propellerheads for exercising music. Their album Decksanddrumsandrockandroll has some great songs on it, like Take California, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and my favorite for running, Spybreak! (I can just see myself on a footrace with a criminal like in the parkour scene of Casino Royal.)

A bunch of the Mega Man 2 remixes on OCRemix have gotten me through several half marathons. There's one Bubble Man remix in particular I remember liking enough to just have on repeat for 5 miles.

My running playlist has a mix of hard, fast-paced rock and rap. This is what's currently in my iTunes playlist for exercising. I try to get songs that have a range of 4:00-5:00 minutes, mainly because I use them as timers and know that at the end of a song, I've been running for about five minutes (or alternatively, setting my goal to get through three 4:30 songs before resting). There are a couple shorter songs, though.

Lose Yourself - Eminem (pretend he's singing about running instead of rapping)
    Almost Famous - Eminem
Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N' Roses
    Beat It - Michael Jackson
Guerrilla Radio - Rage Against the Machine
    Fuel - Metallica
Zero - The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom Lay - Shinedown
    B.O.B. - OutKast
    Hey Ya! - OutKast
Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue
    Everything Zen - Bush
    Superbeast - Rob Zombie
Rock Star (Jason Nevins Mix) - N.E.R.D. (as heard on the Forza 2 soundtrack, make sure it's the remix, the original Rock Star is waaay slower.)
Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J
Pump It - Black Eyed Peas (this is the only song I will ever like by them)
Beast and the Harlot - Avenged Sevenfold
Bon Jovi - Runaway (Get it? Run...away...)
Body Movin' - The Beastie Boys
    Sabotage - The Beastie Boys
    DOA - Foo Fighters
    Jump - Van Halen
Shoot It Out - 10 Years
    Discipline - Nine Inch Nails

I take my music Why So Seriously.
