The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Today Rockstar Games launched the official site for arguably the biggest game release of the year, Grand Theft Auto IV. The site contains no information as of yet except that on March 29 we will get our first new information about the game since E3 last May, in the form of a trailer. Hopefully this will contain the first gameplay footage of the game.
I'm really, really hoping it'll do for this gen what GTA3 did for last gen. You know, something really fresh that sets the bar for new gameplay because of the technology.
SWEET CHOCOLATE CHRIST. FINALLY. I was really started to get antsy for new info.
It's still 4 weeks but I'm just glad it's coming and I hope it rectifies its flaws, improves its positives and makes totall kick assness. I also hope its nothing like Saint's Row which was so annoyingly ghetto I couldn't stomach 20 minutes game play.
GTA1 was Liberty, Vice and San Andreas. By that logic... they'd remake London next. Then the nameless GTA2 City.
That works, except for the fact that VC and SA are both considered part of the GTAIII continuity. Given that they've named this one GTAIV, I'm expecting a complete departure from the canon of the previous series, in a completely different location, etc.
Although I second the notion that London would rule. Speed cameras and CCTV avoidance for the win. And the congestion charge!

I have to admit, I did love GTA2. I wouldn't mind a new GTA styled like that - set in the near future, with fucked up gangs (remember the loonies with their ice cream obsession?)
Interestingly, the lead character of GTA2 is ALSO the lead character of GTA3, as you find out in San Andreas.
But I guess the near-future idea would be a little too crackdown R* to take up.
There needs to be either a female protagonist, or at least a better character editor. I'm not saying Saints Row here, but gimme something. SA had all those clothes and different body types, I think it's possible customisation will grow. Maybe.

The problem with this is story. Since Vice City GTA has very much focused on the main character's story, and this obviously can't be done with character creation (voice acting, etc..) So we're back to GTA3, story wise. Though I know many who would welcome that.
The interesting thing about GTA though is that its main character is often so integral to the story. SA, for example, just wouldn't have worked if you could make your character a redneck white guy. Victor Vance has a rich history that helps drive the story and missions. So does Toni Cipriani. And so on.
Also, Claude was the GTA2 guy? Where's the reasoning for that?
EDIT: AP pretty much said it already. Damn ninjas.
Although I would welcome a female protagonist as standard for GTA IV, actually. Talking and flirting your way out of being busted would be awesome.

GTA4 instead of counting the "rehashes" of vice city and san andreas. as good as those games were.
i'm stoked to see where they are going to take this, hopefully more than just a visual upgrade.
there will be magic and stuff
March 29th can't come fast enough.

GTA fans were rioting following news.
Fuck you. I can dream all I want.
More like Nottingham.
Why? Have you been to London? Have you played the Getaway? Its grey and boring and uninteresting.
If any english city it should be Manchester.
Precisely. GTA1 was Liberty, Vice and San Andreas. By that logic... they'd remake London next. Then the nameless GTA2 City.
But, yeah. I'd like a English-set game - even a European setting, really. There's lots of fun stereotypes to be had in Europe and Britain.

Edit: Yeah, this is Rockstar North.
So many people would get confused by the whole driving on the left side and having to go for the guy on the other side to get to the driver though.

I don't think It'll matter to me because I'm all over the fucking road in GTA
You play as Roger Rabbit and have to get revenge on the people who framed you for murder by killing your girl.
