I'm apparently going to be in Madison Wisconsin for most of next week (Sunday evening through Thursday afternoon) and since I'll be free evenings with nothing to do and a rental car, any place people can recommend I check out. Cash is somewhat tight, so nothing over the top, but I've got tons of time to kill and nothing planned.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Well, let's see: the Student Union at UW-Madison usually has stuff going on in the evenings; they're showing Children of Men Sunday night. There's usually discussions, free music, and more movies during the week too. Their website is:
The Chazen Art Museum (also on campus) is pretty nice; if you're up for a little shopping, you can check out State Street (it leads up to the capital square, if you're looking at a map). Depending on the weather, you could take a walk in the Arboretum (you may want to bring boots if you think you might do that, since we are in the middle of a thaw right now). The Orpheum Theater (also on state street) is showing "Iraq in Fragments" weeknights, too.
If you want dining recommendations, let me know. I enjoy food, and have eaten many, many places here. :P Hell, if you want I can meet you for a beer or something Tuesday or Thursday night when I don't have class. (We are good at beer in Wisconsin.) You'd have to promise not to poison me though.
Being that you're from upstate NY, I won't ask whether you can drive in the snow. You might hit a little bit while you're here.
Where will you be staying? I can probably recommend some places based on proximity.
Regardless, some other places to visit:
Monona Terrace on Lake Monona - Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, it's a convention center with some pretty cool features. Take a tour if you can, they're held every day.
If you like Museums, the Geology museum is also quite cool. Here's a helpful site which covers the downtown museums.
Of course, I should also read your post... mostly evenings free, nothing during the day... you should try to sneak away
I'm sure someone else can make some recommendations, but a lot of the evening events are "night life" related, not that there's anything wrong with that
The Blue Chalk Club on the far west side (actually in neighboring Middleton) is good for pool, as is Cue-nique Billiards downtown.
Also, check out the Brass Ring near the Capitol. Heck, check out the Capitol building itself!
I know I'm missing a lot... help me out gang.
Maybe we should get a Madison PA forumers event going, I could go for some beers!
embrik on
"Damn you and your Daily Doubles, you brigand!"
I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?
