This started over a month ago, and I thought it was a scratch at first and it was annoying but not really painful. Then I actually took a good look at it last weekend and noticed its more than a scratch and is actually a good sized crack running from near the middle-bottom of my upper lip, up the gums on the inside, about, maybe a centimeter long? I suck at judging measurements. It still isn't that painful, more annoying than anything else but its sensitive to the touch of anything(food, tongue, etc.). But this morning I woke up with a mouth full of dried blood and that crack was much redder than it was before.
It reminds me of how lips crack when they get chapped, only its on the inside. The likely cause of this whole thing is probably my CPAP machine I use for sleep apnea, constantly drying my mouth out every night while I sleep.
Anything I can do for this myself, or does this require a trip to the doctor or dentist?
Probably should make an appointment for a dentist/doctor to get that checked. Avoid licking and avoid putting anything on it besides a moisturizing lip balm (avoid chapstick as it's not a "moisturizer").
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

I had a similar problem for about six weeks, but it was more on the outside of the lip. It would peel and flake, hurt, etc. Nothing I did could get rid of it. It was definitely not a cold sore or chapped lips. It was... different. Eventually I went to my doctor and she told me to get some medicated lip ointment (Blistex? Maybe? It had a red cross I think as a logo). I was skeptical, as I had tried almost everything I could find.
After the second day of using the stuff, the problem went away.
You probably have the more severe form of chapped lips (Angular cheilitis) which requires medicated balms and usually doesn't heal on its own in the harsh air. Look for something with petroleum jelly (petrolatum) and camphor (blistex makes a medicated moisturizer just for this, and so does Burt's).
