I got some headphones (Plantronics 655 DSP) for gaming purposes maybe 1-2 years ago at most and they haven't seen much use but they worked fine every time I plugged them in.
Trying to use them recently results in blue screens or simply distorted sound. I can hear the windows sounds and whatever I put on but it is heavily distorted.
I tried plugging them in a different USB port and the same thing happens. This computer is the old thing I browse the net with and is running windows XP.
The headphones work fine on my other computer (Win7).
Tried to upgrade my sound card drivers but it didn't fix anything and the support at Plantronics is non-existent.
I don't know what causes the problem, but USB phones don't use the sound card drivers, they have their own sound device. Try uninstalling the phone drivers and letting it install them again. It MIGHT be stactic electricity build up, MAYBE.
The main issue is that those phones do not have dedicated drivers per se, they just use what Windows tells them to use from what I understand. I tried to reinstall this driver but it didn't solve the problem. I have my doubts about static since they work fine on another computer while doing the same horrible noises on every USB port of my WindowsXP comp.
I called Plantronics and they are telling me to call either the manufacturer of my computer (HAHAHA) or Microsoft (laughed even more there). This company is really a joke.
