Maybe the dude just likes cupcakes?

The honest answer is that you don't go to Junior's then. There are several notable cupcake bakeries in NYC, go to one of them. Or, if you're going to Junior's because of the stuff they do for the community, you suck it up and order a slice of cheesecake, because that's what they and the city are famous for.

Again, this is an issue of competence. These are basic concepts that any decent politician should understand. Which means that either Mittens is incompetent, or he really doesn't care how people view him. Neither is acceptable in a Presidential candidate.

Indeed. You don't shake the baby and kiss someone's hand.

But also I've been looking at the random stuff from Ron Paul supporters have brought up.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDChEDnISOw
Is it that they believe the election is literally being taken out of their hands from nefarious forces within the machine and people really are voting for Ron Paul, or what. I asked a friend if he thought RP was gonna consider a third-party run, and it was like it didn't occur to him that he wouldn't get the nomination.

    it scared me

IMO it's both. The former isn't proven but hardly unexpected from the Republican establishment. The latter is standard Paultard behavior.

I've no horse in this race, but to me it seems that saying a man shouldn't be president because he doesn't like cheesecake really is a bit of a stretch. Maybe he just didn't fancy a piece of cheesecake right then?

Read my earlier post. The issue isn't "oh my god, he bought a cupcake" it's "if you're a Presidential candidate, and you go to a bakery world renowned for cheesecake in a city world renowned for the same, and you don't buy cheesecake, it shows a fundamental lack of understanding about image, which for a politician should be second nature."

And if Rush Limbaugh said that Obama shouldn't be president because he ate a salad at McDonalds?

Yea, everyone ragging on him about not getting cheesecake sounds like you'd be more than willing to ignore something like that, or not notice it at all, if it wasn't for the part where you dislike Romney to start with.

If people are basing their votes on what sort of snacks a guy buys, this nation is really fucked.

He already did do something like that.

How quickly we forget the furor and outrage that Obama used Dijon mustard on his hotdog. People seriously argued this meant he was an elitist.

I've been assuming all this cheescake stuff has been in jest.

I mean, Romney has a serious image control problem, but take a chill.

This isn't a serious criticism. Though it does reveal some tone deaf behavior behind his decision making. No-one thinks getting a cupcake at Junior's is the only reason why he'd be a bad president.

Yeah again, that's not even the deal. I mean A. It is obviously pure inside baseball, but B. The idea is that if your job is mass appeal, you get people who can tell you these things. If Obama went to court voters in Philly at the most famous cheesesteak place and ordered a grilled cheese I would think he or his campaign manager were pretty silly yeah. It isn't a reason to lose, but it is a dumb thing that was done and is interesting to the horserace aspect. Which is all the primary really has going for it.

Take a moment to donate what you can to Critical Resistance and Black Lives Matter.

And this is the point in the conversation where I bring up Fox News going after Obama for ordering unconventional sides for his burger in 2009.

Romney has a ton of reasons to never be allowed in the white house, his choice of desert isn't one of them. Though I will say I'd never heard of this cheesecake place before today.

First off, Obama doesn't have an issue with appearing out of touch, while Romney does. So there's an aspect of "STOP DIGGING!" here.

Second, McDonalds has been pushing their salads for years.
    Huh?

The cupcake thing is small and meaningless and will be forgotten in a week.

In of itself, yes. But it's one more piece of evidence that Romney is utterly out of touch.

Speaking of out of touch morons: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/18/rick-santorum_n_1355916.html
WASHINGTON - Rick Santorum on Sunday defended his assertion that "the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families," arguing on CNN's "State of the Union" that the department's insufficient prosecution of the industry proves his point.

"You have to look at the proof that's in the prosecution," he said. "You draw your conclusion."

Santorum said that a strict reading of pornography laws would bar hard-core porn from the Internet.

The administration, he said, has "not put a priority on prosecuting these cases ... putting children at risk as a result of that."

I have literally no idea what the hell he's talking about.

I think you should run a Google news search on the words "Arugula" and "Obama" and set the filter to 2008 just to get a glimpse into how close your hypothetical is to actual reality.

In our case, though, we're just kidding around.

The thing is, it's like a completely transparent made-up issue. It's not as though legislation was proposed to allow billboard advertising of porn, or advertising during daytime television of porn.

It's a negative ad. "Obama likes porn and doesn't care about children." The only thing shocking is how ridiculously transparent Santorum is about going negative. I've seen internet flame wars that were more measured and reasonable than this. It's getting to the point where people holding the Obama-as-Hitler signs are stepping back and going "dude, did you really think that one through?"

Republicans are currently abandoning the 'state issues!' doctrine when it comes to religious mandate. It has to be at the Federal level. All Americans must be converted to Christianity, and it starts by forcing Americans to live by Christian standards. I really resent this fucking rhetoric. Why can't this guy just drop dead?
