[Computer Build Thread] - Did you remember to plug in the CPU power cable?
Then again there's always multiple small 120hz panels
Sure you don't get the same color accuracy as an ips but you can get similar pixel density as compared with a 1600p panel without giving up the higher refresh rate
so I need recommendations for a good headset + mic, something under a hundred bucks.
Gettin' it for my brother's birthday. He'll end up using it both for general music listening and gaming.
Suggestions for good quality stuff in that price range? I should say it'll be running just off inboard audio. If there's a nice combo of headset and soundcard or something in that price range that will yield better results that's fine too.

I would definitely go with IPS. I have what is apparently a P-MVA which boasts color reproduction, blacks and viewing angles that are close to an IPS. It's really beautiful and I don't think I could downgrade to a TN.
Whenever a new video card or processor comes out it makes me want to build a new computer. I've had this one since 2007. I usually budget $200-250 for the video card though. Not sure if I would like to splurge on a 680.
Can someone explain how the 7950 has more stream processors, larger memory size and memory interface but doesn't perform better than the new 680s? I'm not being facetious, I just want to be the most informed about buying the best card future looking. Games now won't utilize these as much, but is it possible down the road these will benefit games more?
In terms of memory it's mostly a case of things not really needing more than 2gigs of vram on a single screen (although bf3 with msaa cranked up can go more that two at high res)
For stream processors it's just not an apples to apples comparison. Think how the same number of threads in a 2700k can do more work than say an 8120. There's just other architectural variables that lead to performance differences.
The smaller memory may become an issue if you're looking for a long lifespan on the card but I wouldn't sweat it unless you plan on running higher than 1200p resolutions
My concern is if I buy a 7950, the 680 is yards better. So I figure I should buy a 680, should I wait for more aftermarket ones with more fans or overclocked settings?

I just can't do multiple panels. The bezels, the damned bezels! I might just have to look for a big IPS panel that doesn't cost infinity dollars.

Surprisingly enough, I think one of the absolute best options at under 100 bucks is the Razer Carcharias. They get a decent amount of use around my household, even though I've got an embarrassment of "better" headphones laying around. They're currently being used for Mass Effect 3 on my 360. They're really way better than any "gaming" headset should be.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

I'm really not sure how long it'll be until stuff like the twin frozr 4 are available for the 680, but it was a few months on the 7970s so that's probably a decent yardstick. Do you need a new GPU before then? Will the decrease in noise/temps be worth the wait and extra expense that a nice custom PCB/Cooler card will require?

dang - so the sapphire 6950 that I was hoping would drop in price is now NOT dropping in price...and the 7850 outperforms it with less power requirements. lol. So before I overthink this thoughts on the possibility of the 7850 dropping in price a little closer to 200?
250 bucks...or 500 bucks... uhhh.... ..... .... while it'd be nice, for sure, it's not gonna happen. I think 250 is my max for gaming rig parts and even then... BF3 looks great on my 5750 I picked up for 80$ Is there anyway to get an e-mail from the internet to tell me if the 7850 goes on sale?
I've been really out of the loop with computer hardware recently, and wasn't even aware of the 680 before browsing this thread. I hate you guys. I just got my tax return and it's burning a hole in my pocket.

If youre looking for a specific video card to go on sale (so you want the EVGA GTX 570 SC) you can use The Camelizer extention for Firefox (99% sure) and Chrome. Itll email you when it drops below a price you set and it defaults at like 5% off or something. Itll only alert you when that site drops the price on that card (so if you tell it to monitor Newegg, it wont let you know that Amazon is selling the card for less), but you can have it monitor several things at the same time (so you could just have it let you know when Amazon or Newegg drops its price on whatever cards you want).

Need is relative haha, I mean does anyone need something if they have a working one. My 5870 chugs along fine, but I want to get something new and better.
Have you looked at the CATLEAP Q270? Its the same monitor Dell uses for the U2712, without the anti-glare coating, at half the price. Running around $380 right now. You could run 5120:1440 then. Also, if you have two monitors that are 1080p you're either running at 3840x1080 or 1920x2160. If you want 3840x2160 you'll need four monitors.
If you're like most people, you will find gaming on two monitors to be aggravating, due to the asymmetry. Hence the common dual-monitor setup with one good monitor and a second cheaper monitor.
Apparently the 680 and 7850 are neck and neck in SLI, so if you are using 2+ video cards you may want to seriously research the two before making a decision.
@Roland
Do you mean the 680 and the 7970? The statement really doesn't make any sense otherwise. That article seems to drive home that AMD cards scale quite a bit better than Nvidia cards (well, Southern Islands does anyway).
I think I could live with those lines but I don't see how that's any better than just buying one gigantic monitor
Because a monitor doesn't exist that had the size & resolution of those three.
It would have the benefit of not requiring a ton of graphics hardware to run games on. If you're running 5760x1080, you're probably dropping close to a grand on video cards to get decent frame rates. Running at 2560x1440 doesn't give you the same FOV, but the pixel density is so high on a 27" monitor I can see why people wouldn't want to step up.

No, I need to SLI some 680s...
Yes you do
My motherboard will be capable of it!
Seems a bit wasteful to me, though. I'll only be running one monitor...
I don't believe there are any 120hz IPS. It's one or the other right now. That said, either one will ruin you for regular old 60hz TN panels.

(this guy is crazy but oh boy do I wish I had his monitors)

Buy a reference card and a waterblock for it.
That thing looks super clean when hes looking at his desktop, but its still noticeable when hes playing BF3.
I think Im just trying to make myself believe I dont want it.
...
I totally want it.
4k panels need to be here already dammit.

also what happened to that alienware? bendy super wide monitor?

(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
Do you have any info or links on how to do such a thing?
EDIT: To self, no you don't need two of them, don't be stupid.

If you are just doing one the GTX 680 wins.
