I'd like to go away somewhere for a week during the first week of April.
Problem is I have no idea where to go. I'd like to stay away from the typical spring break Cancun/Ft. Launderdale trips and go somewhere relatively close (I'm in NYC), and somewhere that won't break the bank too much.
I don't muchly have a preference for what I'd like to do, just...have something to do and not just sit in a hotel all day long. Also I love food.
I've looked into Maine, but my understanding is that it'll be quite cold there at that time. That's where my ideas run dry, unfortunately
Please help?
Well I hear there's a little convention called PAX in Boston the first weekend of April....
Somewhere like DC or Baltimore (or both?) might be nice and inexpensive. There's a significant amount of history available in DC with all the Smithsonian museums, plus the Capitol. There's also the benefit that the Smithsonian Museums are free admission (http://www.si.edu/). DC has some good food options as well. I've been told that Baltimore has some good night life (although I've never done the bar scene there myself) and there's some excellent food in Baltimore. You can ride the train down from NYC on a small budget.
Edit: just to add, the Smithsonian has some pretty great stuff with science and aerospace as well as history.
Edit2: also, almost forgot! The Art of Video Games will be at the American Art Museum (part of the Smithsonian) from March 16th-Sept 30th.

New Orleans.
DC is fine and dandy, so is Baltimore, but New Orleans is a better visit honestly, especially if you love food.

Definitely a foodie place, I agree. I had thought of NO as well, but he asked for something relatively close. /shrug. Guess it depends on what's relatively close

Honestly it's probably cheaper to go from NY to NO than to drive anywhere. Doing a quick check without fidling with the dates to maximize savings it's 250 bucks round trip. You can find a hotel for 60-80 a night if your frugal and you don't need a car in NO. However I suppose it depends on how cheap he wants to go or how close.

I'll definitely look into New Orleans, I have no idea how that slipped my mind.
