I'm sort of in a bind financially, and while I've donated plasma on and off in the past, I was wondering if there were any other options available for someone to basically sell the stuff that they're making.
As far as I know, plasma and sperm are the only body-manufactured items that you can donate for money. But, are there any others? I know you can donate marrow if you match someone who needs it, but does it pay? Where would I go to find out? Where would I go to register and get typed (I plan on registering even if it doesn't pay)?
Is there anything else I can donate that will give me money?
H/A, help me make money using my body in a non-hooker kind of way.
I think that sperm and blood/plasma are the only things that are both common and legal. I suppose you could probably make a private arrangement with someone in need of something else, but I'm not sure about what sort of laws govern that, if any.

Donating bone marrow is a very laborious process that is not at all easy. Remember, it's inside your bones. Hence, removing it requires rather intensive surgery and rehab.
The only easy things are blood/plasma and sperm. Everything else involves very long wait times and usually no real money. For instance, women can "sell" their eggs if someone wishes to buy them, but it involves a screening process and very involved surgery and medication -- essentially, becoming a surrogate mother prior to conception.
I've read that marrow donation isn't that bad. It's pulled from your hip by one large bore needle, and the majority of donors are out the door the same day. There are listed side effects like soreness and nausea, though.
So it looks like plasma and sperm are my only options? Damn.
If you live around a university or hospital, they may have some drug trials you can participate in. There is the possibility that you will grow ears all over your chest and stomach, but you might be able to make a few bucks. University psych departments will also pay money for you to take part in experiments and tests. I don't think they pay much, and there may be a requirement that you are a student, though. Do you have long hair? You might be able to sell it to a wig maker. The only other body part I think you can legally sell are eggs. You can get a lot for them, but you have to have ovaries for that one.
Not saying you haven't though this through, but keep in mind that if you donate sperm, its likely going to be eventually used. As in, you may have a biological son/daughter somewhere in the world you dont know about.
Make sure you're okay with that first.
Google plasma donation, you'll probably find some place near you that you can donate plasma for 20-50 bucks.
Different places have different time limits. Some say once week for no more than 12 times a year, some say 2 times a week as much as you want. Or something like that. The point is it varies by office, I believe.
Here in the UK sleep study centres at universities need people to participate in the studies. Basically they pay you to sleep. I imagine it may be the same kind of thing in the US, but sleep study centres are quite rare.

I know a guy who did it. He had to "lie" on a near-vertical table (he was practically standing) without moving for several hours. He said it was very painful, and he probably wouldn't do it again.

I am unsurprised that a process involving jamming a ginormous needle into the center of your bone and slurping out the sweet, sweet marrow within is unpleasant.

Eggs from desirable mothers go for tens of thousands of dollars--not exactly a pittance. This is not entirely relevant to the poster's problem, however, unless he has a very helpful girlfriend.
Plasma donation isn't terrible. It's a great place to study for about 45 minutes while you get drained. You may or may not be a fast donor though. Regardless of how much water I drink and how healthy I eat, I still take about 1.5 hours. My girlfriend, however, donates in 25 minutes no matter what she's eaten or drank.
I stopped though, I started having some palpitations and feeling very anxious during donation for two visits. I don't know if it was in my head, or some reaction, but they both went away when I stopped donating.

No, not relevant to males, but it is relevant to the "other things you can sell" aspect. There's usually someone fishing around for eggs in college campus newspapers, offering between 10k and 20k, which is a huge amount of money, but I've never known a woman who did it or knew someone who did it, because it's a huge time investment and a massively intensive process. So the prices are accurate.
Really, more pointing out to the OP that pretty much any other way to get money via your body is going to be time intensive and painful. We produce blood and men produce sperm in abundance, but it's a desirable thing so there's a demand for it. But the prices reflect its abundance. Other parts of the body are either worthless or essentially not for sale.
The mention of testing at college campuses is a good one, though. I had forgotten that when I was in college I did food testing. I got $5 a test (once a week for 2 months) and I ate variations of BBQ bugles, doritos, and some other chips. had to fill out a form describing how I felt about them and what my mood was at the time and all that. So not all of the things are drug testing or at all risky, either.
As an aside, everyone saying "blood/plasma" in here is somewhat wrong. It's illegal to pay for blood products that will be directly transfused, which is why plasma centers give you cash and blood banks instead offer incentives like free t-shirts and raffle tickets.

It's also effectively useless to be a random donor for it since you have to be a very close match. that's why typically they only do marrow transplants from family members
Last summer me and a couple of college friends decided that drug trials would be a good way to make some cash.
Unfortunately we never gave enough of a shit to look that hard, but it is something I would like to do, if only out of curiosity rather than money
Ive done a couple of these, they are easy money. My experiences were taking a muscle relaxer and chilling in a bed watching movies all day while they draw my blood every few hours. Do that for about two weekends in a row and come out $800 richer.
My boyfriend donated plasma and he said that it wasn't worth the time. It takes 4 hours and he only made $35. It was very tiring and we had to drive down town so most of the money he made went to getting more gas. I would only say do it if you are close by and have time to kill.
You could also participate in qualitative studies. They usually pay 20-30 for an hour of participation, I believe. Contact a local research firm to get put on their waiting list -- there's one in the DC area called ORC Macro, I'm sure there are some in your area too.

Not useless, but odds aren't very good.
The guy I knew who did it was a random donor, in fact. I'm in the registry, too.
When you donate blood... would you be able to drive home and like exercise and shit later or do you have to keep it easy for a couple of days? Serious question because I have no idea how much blood they take out and how it affects (or is it effect?) you.
When you give plasma some red blood cells are lost in the process but generally it all gets put back in you. The first time you donate you may feel a little tired its recomended you eat or drink something before and after donating, the more hydrated you are the easier it goes, usually. The first time donating it will probably take an hour or so after that around 45 minutes. I basically lived on giving plasma for like a year and a half. The place I went to I could go 3 times a week. Some places have incentives to get return business like drawings for cash prizes, your name will be put in for each time you donate. I went one time when they were giving out scratch off lottery tickets, the guy in front of me won 1000$ Also if you have gotten any piercings or tattoos within the year some places wont let you donate plasma. They will want you to wait 6 months and come back with results of a tetnus test. There arent really any health risks in giving plasma the biggest might be infection of the site they stick you but I never had any problems with it. The place I went to was really good about opening fresh gear right in front of you and hooking it all up so you know its clean and sterile, none of the tubing or the little containers that go into the machine should ever be reused.
FYI, in California (and probably other places) becoming a sperm donor requires a long-term commitment. Once you sign up and pass the screening you are supposed to come in every week for 1-2 years.
Of course, that's up to $75 a week, which isn't bad.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
I wish I was a man sometimes. That has to be the easiest way to make money.
Whether giving blood is sensible or not has a lot to do with your body and lifestyle. If you're huge and healthy you won't miss it, you'll make up the volume very quickly. If you're small, blood pressure problems etc. it'll hit you harder. If you're serious about a particular sport it could affect your training.
I gave whole blood for a while and became anaemic. Of course, in the UK we don't get paid. I lost my enthusiasm pretty quickly.
Heh, I wish I was a chick right now. A friend of mine is actually looking into donating eggs and so far it's looking good. She's being offered 18k. That's a lot of money especially since she's looking at buying a home and may need to put some serious cash into her car or buy another one sometime soon.

Re sperm donation: I have heard of a case where the sperm donor was hunted down for child support. I know this is extremely unlikely, but, it's still something to consider.

My understanding is that's pretty unlikely. What is likely, and is moving towards a legal right, is twenty years from now having a kid show up and asking to see you; Daddy.
