I tried posting this in the Tech forum but got no response so maybe you folks can help me.
I gifted one of the Sims 3 expansions to the boyfriend but didn't know he had Sims 3 through Orgin, not Steam so he couldn't use it. I had him activate MY copy of the expansion on Origin and everything works fine and he returned the gift to me but what I would like is to register my copy to him and then use the Registry Key on the gift for myself, preferably on Steam but at least on Origin. Is there any way to do that? I can't find a way to get the key off the gift and Steam support is no help at all; they just send me links to a FAQ on Retail CD Keys over and over.
Do you have Sims3 on steam? The gift should be in your inventory, you should just be able to click "add to my library".
I already have the expansion. I have 2 copies. One of them is registered to me on Steam and is installed and works fine but the boyfriend is using the same key on Origin. The other is just sitting there doing nothing in my gift inventory and I want to get the key from that one.
Ahh, I'm 90% sure you can't get the key until someone adds it to their library.

Crap. I just wanna be semi legal about the whole thing. Ah well.

Have the boyfriend make a steam account (or make a second one yourself) and gift it to him/yourself then redeem the code on origin on your account. Only viable way I can think of to do what you want.
Man, you guys weren't kidding about that Vampire:The Masquerade patch. 3 boots, 3 critical failures. Post patch, no failures.
Also I bought Fractal and holy crap that game is DELIGHTFUL. A really fun puzzler with a cool musical component. You push out hexagons and try to push them into forming larger hexagons. When you do, they zoom out, expand all over the place and can expand your playing field. Your combos and hexes also have an effect on the music. It fills in and gets richer when you have a higher score.
I love games where the music is reactive to your play, or you can influence it in some way. I think that is just rad as hell.
EDIT: OOH WE TALKING ABOUT X-COM?!
I've been playing Enemy Unknown and Terror from the Deep since they came out. Those games are MY JAM.
hah every time I try to play xcom I just end up losing all my marines before I can even find the enemy in the fog of war.
but yeah I'm sure I could play some games on my laptop. It just seems weird without the big desktop to interface with.
Early missions are the hardest, no question. In Enemy Unknown, put it on Easy and don't be afraid to spend a few hours just really learning how the game works. It's pretty deep and not the most user friendly thing on the planet. So just jump in and see what works and what doesn't, in terms of base building.
In terms of actual missions, the most important bit of advice I can offer is TANKS. Buy a rocket tank and always make sure it's the first one off your Skyranger. It can (usually) absorb a few shots from aliens, and one hit, or near hit, from that big gun will incapacitate any human sized target.
Check your guys' stats and if you are blessed with anyone with a high throwing skill off the bat, invest in grenades. Cheap, powerful and you don't have to be too accurate. Everyone else should bring standard rifles, or strength permitting, heavy cannons. Research armor and plasma weapons when you can. Motion tracker is worthless, as are most laser weapons, but I usually research laser pistol as a early-mid game back up weapon, in case you run out of plasma ammo. And don't mess with terror sites early on unless you're really confident in your tech and squad. You're better off just landing and immediately retreating. You get the points for "trying" instead of just ignoring it and letting them establish a base.
Fuck you all for making me need to buy this Crusader Kings game. I hope you're happy.
This
Ugh, seriously. The past few pages have left me drooling for this game, but my game budget (both in terms of time and money) is so short right now. Damn you all!

He already has an account, he can't activate it because he doesn't have Sims 3 on it. He's been gifted it already; there was no way to see the key then either.
So how much time does it take to have fun in Football Manager? I've already bought it but still might as well get ready for what I'm in for.

Depends on what you want out of it. I like taking very low division teams in the English league and working my way up, so that takes a while. You can just pick a top tier team and start competing. But really, the game is about managing rosters and contracts and staff and training, so if that doesn't appeal to you, you probably won't enjoy it. Watching the simmed games is pretty neat, though.
I mean like. When you boot it up, how much can you accomplish in a halfhour to an hour? In an FPS I can do a couple rounds in 30 minutes which, if pressed for time, is enough to enjoy.
I hate to ask this, but can someone in the US please buy FM2012 from Amazon for $6 for me and PM me the key? I will of course reimburse you via either paypal or a similarly priced game on Steam.
The thing is, I can't even buy it on Steam because if you're in Germany, the game doesn't even show up in the store.
edit: Handled by the ever classy @Handgimp. Thanks again!

I entered Handgimp's super classy FM2012 giveaway. I last played FM in 1996, but back then I remember it being an absolute bottomless timesink, in short or long bursts.

Can't do Amazon US (bah!), but this has inspired me to pick it up as an early birthday present for my dad when I get home (finally).

You may have sold me on buying a copy for my friend. I assume low system requirements?

Oh, it doesn't take long at all to actually play. You can go through a match every 5 or 10 minutes, depending on how in depth you want to get.

I don't know the requirements offhand, but I don't see why it would require a whole lot. Maybe a decent processor for all of the simulating, but there's no fancy graphics or anything.

It'll just be later than I had been planning. Wrapped up in Lego Harry Potter right now, plus I have a bunch of work that needs doing.

Weird.
And congratulations to @heenato for winning the Stacking giveaway.
Also, I crave submissions for my Mass Effect 3 contest! Details here.

cool, I'm really looking forward to it
yeah that sounds about right
That happens to me too. I've just accepted the fact that I'm horrible at that game.
