I got a PS3 recently, I'm trying to connect it to my Win7 64bit PC but a couple days reading tech support forums is making me wanna flip a table over. So!
Problem is that Windows Media Player seems like the standard for streaming to PS3, and it just flat out doesn't want to work for me. I've got all my music stored on an external hard drive - I drag and drop it into WMP, it builds a library, all looks good. But then I go check it out on the PS3, it doesn't show up. Then closing and restarting WMP, the library is empty again. Gotta drag and drop the entire library every time I launch WMP, and even then it doesn't show up on the PS3. I've tried rebuilding the library, nada. So WMP just can't maintain a library if it's stored on an external?
I eventually found the PS3 in the PC's network as "Unknown Device" and it's allowed access to everything, and the PS3 detects the PC - it comes up as Desktop:Username, I can go in and into the folders (Music, Video, Pictures) but there is no content in there.
To test if the fact that I store on an external was the problem, I saved an album to the PC's actual hard drive, under Documents, Music. Still not showing up on the PS3.
So the WMP library melts every time I close the program, and the PS3 can't see anything on the PC at all. I'm OK with giving up on WMP now and using something else - open to suggestions!
Cheers
