The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
So I do photography mostly as a hobby and now and now that it is nearly Spring, I want to start shooting again. I have a couple of friends that want to do some indoor shoots and I shoot a monthly indoor event as well.
But I don't really have a proper flash.
For now, I use a Canon Rebel XSi and I've been using the stock flash which is tiny and inadequate for flashing people with.
But seriously, I need something better. Any specific suggestions? I'd like to upgrade the camera eventually too but for now I think a better flash would help a lot.
Check out yongnuo flashes. I got one for Christmas for my d90 and have been really happy with it

The Canon 430ex II will suit you just fine, especially if you can find a good used one.
Really, the most important thing you need in a hotshoe flash is 1) you need to be able to control the output and 2) you need to be able to completely swivel/turn/adjust the flash head to point it in any direction you want to get proper bounce and fill
What's your budget, Drez? And are your indoor shoots along the lines of portraiture or do you have to be mobile?
The reason I ask is that if you can invest in a remote trigger system and have off-camera flash(es), that will greatly greatly improve your results. But even just getting a hotshoe flash that does the things Sheri listed will do wonders for you.
