The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Let's talk about drawings that move(or 3D things too).
Even games have awesome and incredibly unique animations! Whether you're some crazy-ass future-past assassin parkour guy who can climb almost anything, or a hideously grotesque space monster, games have it down almost to a science.
So let's talk about our favorite animations or what you like about animation itself and stuff. Or not, I'm also watching Top Gear right now. We can also talk about that.
The way the baboon does that little hand thing as he goes in for the hug. I dunno what it is but I just love that little bit so much.
ha ha yeah I find little things like that too.
There's a moment in Monsters Inc when Boo hugs sully and like pats his chest
and in Ratatouille when Linguini catches Remy in the jar and Remy is breathing so fast
Yeeeesss god I love that!
It's literally those little things that make them so damn good in my eyes. Being able to have such control over the principles of animation that they can add these great little things that make it ten times better is just so fantastic.
I was watching The Incredibles not too long ago and listening to the animator's commentary and one of them was talking about the scene when Syndrome is walking to his plane and you see his arm just do this weird move. You find out it's what happens when like, your sleeve gets kinda stuck in your arm pit and you try and shake it loose. Adding just that little arm shake makes a simple little walk cycle into something incredibly unique.

I also watched The Incredibles with the commentary a couple of weeks ago and remember that very moment. I think they based the movement off someone at Pixar who did that all the time?
Also the animation of the guard getting hit with the rock and falling off the 2nd floor when Mr Incredible is sneaking around
Wakfu is pretty dang good for something that was probably made in flash. Especially in the last five or so episodes when they remembered they had a budget and boy did they spend it.

Yo yo yo
I was thinking about what to write because animation is pretty neat, but I could only think of things that had more to do with art styles of animators
When Flash is used as an actual medium instead of a way to make animation on the cheap, it can be very well done and have a style all its own.
Yes yes, lots of reused profile and head-on angles, but I kinda accept it as part of the medium. You can use a ton of effort on those important shots, but just setting up the fact that the characters are looking at something doesn't require much. And the usual trouble of a television series needing a lot of footage on the cheap.
