Annoying mouth injury

About 1.5 weeks ago, my upper lip got bit by a pet rat. I cleaned it and applied some hydrogen peroxide and all seemed well. It healed up (as far as I could tell) and didn't leave a mark.

Anyhow, about 2 days ago I was eating some peanuts (the kind that are still in shells) and I noticed my upper lip felt odd. I checked it and low and behold the bite had reappeared. I thought nothing of it, just cleaned it again and hoped for the best. But this time, it didn't get better and now stings like a fucking bitch anytime my tongue touches it (and considering the location, this is about 300 times a day). I've been continously applying peroxide to it to try and keep new germs from getting in, but so far it seems to be a losing battle.

It doesn't seem terribly infected or anything like that, it just *really* stings and I wanna know what's the best method to cure the thing is. It's on the inside of my upper lip so I can't really use a band-aid and I worry putting anti-biotic gel on it would be pointless as natural saliva movement would wash it away.

tl;dr - I have a cut inside my upper lip and want to know the best method to heal it.

Does the rat have it's shots?!? I think you may be facing a serious infection, see a Doctor.

Shots? Wha? I'm pretty sure it didn't suddenly get rabies or something.

From my experience mouth injuries heal rather quickly. (I had my upper pallet cut which healed earlier than expected then i bit a hole in my tongue that healed in one day.) So just stay away from salty foods and i guess just talk less and don't eat unless you need to.

I just thought it was odd that it pretty much WAS healed until I was eating those peanuts.

I have the next 9 days off (spring break!) and since I work for the school, I don't have jack to do.

    Hopefully it'll heal by then?

Try to avoid putting salt on wounds.

    Yeah, that's my advice.

I agree. Salt fucks all wounds up. Just eat mild things for awhile. When I had my mouth surgery i stuck to apple sauce and other soft foods....my stitches came out like 3 days early but my mouth was fine.

I'd suggest talking to a vet, if not a doctor. Talking to one doesn't cost anything, and wouldn't hurt. That's what I would do, personally.

Peanuts, too. Anything hard or crunchy can wreak havoc on a healing mouth. I've had a bit of the roof of my mouth peeled away for about a week now because I keep scraping it.

It kinda sorta sounds like you may have a canker sore. Look at the image on wiki (maybe do a GIS to see other images) and tell me if what you have looks like that.

It could easily be something the rat passed on to you. As someone above said, consulting a vet would probably be your best course of action, but obviously a doctor if it won't be too expensive.

The rest of this is not related to the OP, so sorry for the hijack, but related to mouths so I don't feel right starting a new thread - I have a sore on the right corner of my mouth, and it's been there for a month or so now. I haven't exactly done a lot to get rid of it, as it simply feels like dry skin, as if there was a cold sore there once but it has since healed. Normally I wouldn't be bothered, but it seems to have been there an inordinate amount of time. I've just started using Virasorb on it, a cold sore cream, but it doesn't seem to help too much. Any ideas?
