Seeing Orikaehshasdighstahtae's thread about Dystopia has inspired me. It has brought back wistful memories of playing games of Diplomacy in the lobby of my dorm with a group of people and a pile of pizza. Good times were had.
This is Diplomacy:

It is played on a map like this:
<see below>
There are many variations of the map, but that is the standard one.
The game is very simple: 7 people representing various European countries in the 1400's (I think? Anyone know for sure) vie for world domination. Unlike Risk, however, this game requires an immense amount of strategy and finesses rather than pure luck. The core of the game is taking over countries that have supply centers; more supply centers means more armies you can build up.
Fighting is very simple. You have to have more armies bordering a country than the other guy. For example, say you have 1 army in France, and your opponent has an army in Spain. If you try try to attack Spain, your armies will "bounce" and nothing will happen. Now if you take 2 armies bordering Spain and attack it, you can successfully take over Spain. That simple.
Where it gets interesting is in the ordering/negotiating phase. Between each turn of the game, the players all give their units specific orders, such as "Army number one moves into Germany." During this phase, you are free to talk to other countries as much as you'd like and try to get their support to take over other countries. This is where the finesse comes in. Now, when making negotiations, you have to be careful. Players are free to back out of agreements they make with others, making backstabbing and treachery a normal and oh so fun part of the game.

Build orders take place after the fall turn.
Thank you.
I sent in my moves.
Yes, you did.
I sent mine in.
Maybe not have orders due on the weekend? I know I was gone all weekend and didn't have time to even think about my moves until I got back home at like 8. Perhaps this is the case for others.
So spring and autumn turns last 48 hours, and winter turns last 24?
That was the idea, but some people didn't send in orders. Do we
(r)eplace (w)ait or (a)bort?
those orders had better be in tomorrow
Do you guys think this sounds fair?
Having all their units hold would be as good as a death blow, depending on the circumstances.
what?
Ergo, 7 minutes until the end of the turn.
I just didn't post the map when I was supposed to.
I'm still missing 2 people's orders. If they haven't even checked in by this evening, we'll be replacing them.
<_<
You get 24 individual hours of lateness starting now. If you are late an hour, you have 23 hours, etc. If you're late more than a day for the rest of the game, I'll get Qs, who will happily take over for anybody.
Now for the update:

People who can build 1 unit:
Build orders are due Tuesday, just before midnight.
The next move will be due Thursday before midnight. All the supply centers but Denmark are taken, so gaining a unit will involve hurting somebody.
England built London, Russia Warsaw, Italy Rome, all armies.
Move is due Thursday at midnight. Somebody has taken over for Cecil as one of the nations.
Cecil is a bad person.
I prefer not to do so yet, I'm about to hit two weeks of lots of crap, but after that I'd be up for it (about march 26th or so is when I become free)
