The All-New Desktop Thread

If you think your shit has GOT WHAT IT TAKES, then post it here in the form of a desktop screenshot.

If you want the old OP, go here.

If you have a particularly snazzy desktop and you know people are likely to ask for the source, then post it with your screenshot. It'll help out a lot.

FAQ
How do I use custom visual styles with Windows XP?
Go here. Apply the patch, if it asks you to insert the Windows XP CD to replace changed files, don't let it. Then go somewhere like here, download a theme, put the files in a sensible place, and double click the .msstyles file. If you happen to have XP SP3 and not SP2, then download the patcher here instead.

How do I use custom visual styles with Windows Vista?
I don't run that shit, so I've had to dig up a guide. It seems mildly more complicated. Still, once you've done all that, you can get themes in a similar manner.

I don't know if trying to save the h-scroll is really needed anymore, since it doesn't ruin a whole page.

I use System5 as my visual style. Here's my wallpaper, as that's the only thing that matters really.

Got logos for all the different programs and junk I wanted on the desktop, photoshopped them on in the positions I wanted with something like 80% opacity. Then I used an icon (.ico) format plugin for photoshop to create the icons by cutting out 48x48 squares of the desktop image in the appropriate places.

I then assigned the new icon images, and moved them to their desired spots using the background as a guide to line them up perfectly. The final step was to make some minor adjustments such as font size, and getting rid of the shortcut arrows, and viola.

All in all, it was a pretty tedious operation. It has been my desktop since October and will be until I finish Twilight Princess.

Why are you worried about the hscroll anymore? The new forum handles it fine. Anyway, here is my desktop.

I just think not having to scroll left and right to view and image at all is a good thing. It was only a general request though. I'm not going to start complaining if people start breaking the H-Scroll.

Also, what is with those randomly placed icons?! I wouldn't be able to stand my PC like that.

Vbulletin resizes the image itself, so its not possible to break h-scroll.

    Really? Wow. That's awesome.

I was under the impression that it still stretched individual posts that had large images in them so that only that one post went past the H-Scroll. I didn't know they'd changed it to resize large images.

    I'll change the OP.

lies. My H scroll is broken right now.

Although I am using mozilla 1.7.8, that might be why.

Placing them in a unique structure makes each icon easier to find. When they're just in a big grid it's harder to group and hard to mentally associate a particular shortcut with a location on the screen.

If you want other resolutions search the forum. Someone here cooked up an array of options for this, possibly in the old Wii Megathread or an even older TP thread.
