My mom wants a pasta maker (pasta machine?) and her birthday is in a couple of weeks. I think I'll buy her one. Does anybody know anything about these devices? Are there any particular brands to consider? To avoid?

Any and all information appreciated. :)

Does she already have a stand mixer like a kitchen-aid? Most have optional pasta attachments that are worth checking out.

Alton Brown has a Marcato Atlas model. First link in a search for them = http://www.cutleryandmore.com/details.asp?SKU=5604. Avoid anything by Ron Popeil.

I had a pasta maker - used it twice. Hated it. Good luck.
