I go to the same Albanian girls across the street. $13 for a men's cut. I just give them a $20 and tell them to keep the change.

Also [chat] if you'd be so kind, I would really appreciate some "must-read" sci-fi recommendations.
I've recently come to possess a Sony Reader and now that "going to the library" no longer involves getting off my ass, I find myself doing a great deal more reading! And not just cookbooks, which is a refreshing change.

although I am very un comic book nerd I have thoughts on the matter.
dialogue does not need to be delivered by talking heads. Apart from establishing who is talking to whom and who is saying what, they're completely unnecessary. They add nothing.
Show what's happening - what are they doing? is she subtly leaning forwards and trying to look seductive while he's gesticulating wildly, looking away and sligthly up, gushing about something?
Is someone droning on and on about something while amusing background events happen?
If there is no action to show, use the time for some establishing shotsand/or some scenery porn or just normal porn or something. You have visuals, use them!
You don't need to show exactly who is talking all the time, either. Books get away with this just fine.
people talking to each other, sometimes for long stretches, is pretty unavoidable in certain kinds of stories. all you can really do is use the art to punch up and emphasize the emotions at play.
here's 22 ways to do that:
Yeah, I know. I'm just saying, at the start of the dialogue, establish who's talking. then go do something else with your visuals.

I loved all four books in the Hyperion Cantos very much, but Fall of Hyperion was seriously the greatest thing. The last entry can get a little slow and preachy, but it actually ties up every single question ever left open across all four books and has a really neat, satisfying ending.

I used to get all four of them out from the library every year and read them all over a weekend. Should really read them again someday.

I could see myself enjoying any of those stories!
To be honest I've spent the first 25 years of my life largely reading Fantasy/Historical Fiction, while almost entirely neglecting Sci-Fi (aside from obvious ones like Hitchhiker's Guide, Ender's Game, etc), so it's something I'd like to jump into with both feet, now that I find myself with the time and inclination.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far, I'm compiling a spreadsheet to keep things neat and organized!

And I would say Cat's Cradle is somewhat sci-fi-ish. Though not really. But you should read it, because it's great.
In sirius, A Canticle for Liebowitz is amazing.
Make sure their albanian husbands don't catch you.
WHAT YOU THINK MY WIFE IS PROSTITUTE?!
They will straight up murder you. And drive your corpse around on the hood of their car while the whole albanian neighborhood nods in understanding.
