So Felicia Day, self-styled Queen of the internet, has launched a Youtube channel called 'Geek & Sundry' today. The channel is pretty cool in that it brings together some of the fairly disparate elements of the geek culture, with 6 dedicated shows. It also builds on the success of her popular web series The Guild, with plenty of synergy between the two brands going on - for example, as part of the launch a new music video with the cast was released:

It's pretty catchy!
So what are the shows?
1.The Flog, which is Felicia's Vlog (which is a video Blog. Which is an internet Journal. Which is- y'know what, fuck it) :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-4wIUxuk0k2. Dark Horse comics - creating special animated comics for the channel. Neat!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgK41TDKYjE3. Tabletop - tabletop games with Will Wheaton! And other people!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVKQ3VgGN3o4. Sword & Laser - Like a book club, online.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCgueV3rLGw5. Written by a kid - Cute Kids Come Up With Stories That Directors Do Stuff With.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpO6LD1mo-Q6. Learning Town - A musical comedy sketch show that hasn't been made yet.

There's also Guild promo stuff and old episodes going up.
I dunno, I think it's all pretty cool - I've seen some of the stuff on the channel and it seems like it could really take off.
Forbes and
USA today are talking about it, I think those are popular publications in America.
So... talk about it! Or something.

That said, that music video is hilariously catchy.
Wil Wheaton is in pretty much any video.
Wil Wheaton, though. that guy baffles me.
yeah samesies
That guys from MythBusters is in the Tabletop trailer
Anyway, to extrapolate on my feelings, it's because most of that shit is just blatant pandering.
You're absolutely right that isn't her fault.
What is her fault is that she exploits that to make money.
I don't have a problem with this, but it's definitely something she's aware of, and I don't have any issue with people disliking her for it.

yes, exactly. It's blatant pandering/exploitation, and it's not even very good! It's not like the guild is actually a good show or something.
My friend was playing the pandas beta and felicia day sat down next to her and was like "OH WOW THIS IS SO AWESOME" and just kept poking her to tell her how much she was enjoying the beta. She seems really nice.
I wonder why...
See I disagree, it would be one thing if she wasn't a geek. As far as I can tell she is legitimately into video games and the like. She is making money for doing things she likes, we should all be so lucky. I guess what I'm saying is haters gonna hate.

work for blizzard and get me access to a ticket!
Anyway all my opinions are bad, as usual, so I'm outtie anyway.
yes here is a prime example. Will Wheaton pretty definitely does enjoy all sorts of activities associated with being a nerd, is hugely popular but has lots of people who also react negatively to the shit he does/says.
no, unfortunately a lot of people like him
well sure, but a lot of people like Day as well.
I agree with this, she seems a genuinely nice girl.
yeh but he does the whole pandering thing
This is how I feel too.
I don't think what Felicia does is exploitation, really. She and her colleagues make web videos, some people find them funny, others don't! It's not like she's going 'if you buy $1,000 worth of Merch, I'll [insert something pandering here]'. It strikes me more like she's doing something she loves and everything else is incidental to that.
I'm having trouble making it through this video. Yeah, alright, you're wacky and spunky and please stop and just listen and learn something
edit: alright, she calmed down after a little bit and actually did some work. that's better
you can enjoy what you are doing and still pander like whoa
I don't blame her
cause I sure as fuck would do the same thing in her situation
hahah, I actually thought this exact sentence after reading his post.
let me get a couple more years under my belt first.
and approximately how irish does this sword have to be?
called it patty
More interested in seeing Day[9] in this.
it's the same kind of thing with olivia munn
I'm not at all a fan of the way she's marketed
and really I'm not a fan of self described geek culture anyway
Everyone's opinions are bad.
For instance, I don't see anything special about most Disney films as I didn't watch them when I was growing up.
edit: Except Toy Story. I will kill a motherfucker for badmouthing Toy Story.
