Travel the world, buy exotic instruments... and play them

I'm looking to purchase, for a reasonable price, a sitar, and then teach myself how to play it. Nothing too fancy, because a fancy instrument would be totally wasted on me at this point, but something reasonably priced to dick around on that will stay in tune for more than two seconds. Now if I were looking for guitars, I'd know where to buy one, but I know absolutely nothing about sitars other than that I like how they sound, and they look like they'd be ten kinds of fun to play. Where would I go to pick one up, what would it run me, and is it something I could viably teach myself? I managed well enough with other stringed instruments so far.

Also, go through that whole paragraph again, but replace "sitar" with "harmonica", and it's equally valid. I'd like to pick up both instruments.

you can get a harmonica at pretty much any guitar/instrument shop. you can find a good beginner one for pretty cheap, too. i picked up one for maybe fifteen bucks just a couple of weeks back
