Alright, he doesn't know yet, but I want to take him to see a movie. (for his birthday)
However, since I don't have a lot of money at the moment, I want to make sure I don't waste money and take him to a good one.
I was originally going to take him to see Ghost Rider, since a) he knows who Ghost Rider is b) he likes motorcycles and used to ride one. However, from the reviews and the PAforums, it seems this movie got panned, and lacks a lot of action. He was one of those people that got mad at Jarhead for having no real action, and he paid 1$ to see that one.
So my other two options are either Wild Hogs (again, motorcycles, and it seems people liked that one) or 300 (he liked Sin City, so I'm guessing he'd also like another Frank Miller movie).
Another thing to probably consider is that he'd probably want to bring his son, my youngest brother, along to see the movie. But he's 10, so Wild Hogs would be better for doing that. Then again, I don't know how graphic 300 actually gets. (ie, just nudity, or do decapitations/blood everywhere)
tldr; my stepdad likes motorcycles and Sin City, option of either Wild Hogs or 300 since Ghost Rider got panned. tickets to this movie theater are 6$, so must spend well.

Then you can take him out to dinner.
I'd lime this TWICE if I could.
Oh look, I can
GO SEE 300
in any case, it'll be cool as fuck to watch him get inspired and make a sword, shield and helmet from cardboard and run around in a bathing suit shouting SPARTAAA in a little 10 year old voice and hacking at you
it'd be adorable in the manliest way possible
Ghost Rider and Wild Hogs have gotten pretty bad reviews where as every early review I've seen of 300 has declared it to amazing and total badassery.
Yeah 300 is really the only choice. Talk to the kid about what movies he likes and has seen to see if the blood will bother him. But really it's all been on tv and video games he's played but only now it's on a big screen and way more awesome then any tv show.
As a home school project, he's made a viking shield (out of wood and a metal bowl) and a medieval mace (with actual metal spikes).
The shield is actually pretty badass, however the mace stays locked up.
I'd say the movie'll be perfect.
To be honest, he enjoys making popcorn runs for the free bag refills.
I guess 300 it is, and we'll just watch Wild Hogs when it hits the dollar theater.
Of course, we also only figured this out at the last movie we went to.
You can keep taking the bag to the counter and get it refilled, for free. However, i'm pretty sure this doesn't apply to the pop (soda, soft drink, whathefuckever).
It's called Coke. Regardless of what beverage is acutally wanted/consumed, you ask for a Coke. O_o
All the theaters that I've been to that do refills will do it for the large drinks (Cokes).
And yeah, The 300 FTW.
We're not in the south, so the only thing called Coke here is Coca Cola.
The movie theaters are weird. The dollar theater is nice and cheap, but charges 7$ for damn near anything, about 4$ for a box of candy. (obviously, this is how they can charge so cheaply for tickets, besides the fact that they get hand-me-down film reels). The one I would be taking him to has 7$ tickets, but decently priced drinks and decently priced popcorn, but horribly expensive candy.
I wouldn't sweat it.
I would honestly like to know the story about this, because I've never heard it. Then again, the only IMAX theater I know of is Henry Doorly Zoo's. And that's like, 18$ a person.
There used to be an IMAX theater(re?) in Hastings, and the IMAX company told them it would be the only one in Nebraska, which was a great tourism deal for Hastings, as they already had a decent museum of random history. My elementary school used to take students there all the time, watching the most badass movies about the Amazon, Antarctica, Everest, deep sea, etc.
Then a few years ago, IMAX put up a screen in Omaha, and Hastings' Lincoln and Omaha market vanished (that's 2/3 of Nebraska's population). The IMAX theater went out of business I guess, as they put in a different screen in and it's now the LIED Superscreen. They play second and sometimes first-run movies, but the reel can't hold 2 hours of footage, so some movies have to be edited for length. It's been a while since it happened, so don't quote me on it, but I think thats the jist.
is Friday a "selected theaters" release for 300? I can't seem to find any listings for showings of this movie for the weekend, except for 30 miles away in Fremont. It doesn't show up anywhere local on moviephone or the local "big" movie chain's website
I thought this movie would be everywhere, seeing as how I saw Reloaded and Revolutions, plus X3 and Terminator 3 on release-day at the same theater.
Try Yahoo Movies.
They probably just haven't updated their listings. Sometimes they'll wait until Thursday for big movies; I don't know if it's a marketing thing or what.
