Yea, Dubh pointed out to me that your gear scales down for lower stratums, which is great. Your only real advantage is having more specialized loadouts.

To folks that have been around a while, is it worth it leveling non-unique equipment? Or should you mass craft the lowest tier of the set and try for one?

Start crafting a set first- it's going to help in the long run. Just remember, you can't upgrade 2 star equipment if it's leveled at all.

I have a few gun recipes to help you with unbound upgrades. My gf, Beckat, can help with sword stuff (and we both can do some bomber armor). It's not for free, but it would spare you a few recipe purchases.

This isn't answering my question! I am asking if I should stick to the sets I've got or if I should go for unique items A.K.A the items with yellow marks on them signifying a bonus beyond the norm.

Oh man, those little butterfly things that heal enemies are annoying.

craft whatever you want, and if it's a unique variant, great. Upgrade that thing all the way to 5 star. If it's not, it gets a chance to become a unique variant every time you upgrade. If you get all the way to the top without it turning unique, or the unique sucks, there is a guy who will replace uniques on your weapon for a load of crowns.

You could roll for a unique variant with this guy a couple of times, but based on the odds, people massively undersell rare unique variants in the auction house - but they'll still be worth a lot, so it's not really feasible to go unique variant hunting until you've got a good cash flow and are comfortable with your current equipment.

So I decided to stick with both my main and my alt. The former is still "Tankhammer" the second is "Cmdr-Longshanks" to compliment my friend "Cpt-Shortness".

Haven't gotten enough materials to craft a thing yet but I'm workin on it.

Oh, you're asking about unique variants? Don't bank on those yet, it will only lead to tears and lower tiers. When you have more cash, then they're more of a thing to actively look for.

I started playing this a bit when it started off being free over steam, but someone told me you eventually have to start paying money to have enough energy to make higher level gear.

Is that still the case?

variants are the best part of getting those item rewards from the missions

keep those items that give you the variations, a bunch of them you can use in recipes to make the higher tier version of the weapon

and you can carry the variant over

No, you can buy crystal energy with crowns you make doing dungeon runs. It takes a bit of time, but it's totally doable.

Most crafted items are sold at a loss or just at the price of CE + Mist + crown cost of crafting, and materials are usually subsidized. If you can find stuff in good demand (gunslinger, wolver stuff, no love for bombers as far as I know) then you're effectively turning your mist into CE at a little less of a deal than if you dungeon delved all that mist and used the crown profit to buy off the market.

Mostly craft selling is just a way to make up the cost of spamming low level crafts to hope for a UV you want

CE is now back down to not absurd lvls so it's feasible to not pay anything

back when they did their adjustments to crafting and nearly doubled the requirements and super-inflation happened, it would take literally weeks of being f2p to collect enough energy and crowns and raw materials to upgrade a single thing from 4*-5*

and then when you get a good UV like very high CDR ahahhah you're looking at 10s of thousands of CE in profit

Items that you craft can have a special buff that is called a Unique Variant, which is a random bonus to some attribute of the item. Sometimes that buff is a very good buff, and that makes the item valuable. People craft items many, many times looking for such buffs.

I really have no clue what I am doing. I have all 2-star equipment now from missions, but I can't find any recipes from the vendors that will get me 3-star weapons, or any vendored 3-star weapons. I'm guessing they are drops from lower levels, but I dunno.

Every time I get put into a group for a clockwork crawl, everyone has all these ridiculous weapons except for me, and I'm like just wailing on a slime for 10 minutes while they clear 200 slimes over in their corner.
