I never had issues with any of the other guard missions actually, unless day 8 adds some hellish ones.
the one at gins route was pretty standard iirc in 3 people guard while main does whatever, as main is an unkillable dancemachine at that point :P.
Gin's route:
Atsuro escorts Haru. Haru dies if hit once. Enemy teams that warp in have Phantasma and Chaos Wave and warp in at four spots on map, quite often.
Enemies with Phantasma have higher Speed relative to movement-only actions. And they can reach Haru's position at the synth with Chaos Wave without even warping across the chasm.
The result is a potentially very obnoxious fight.
I assume that is day 8, or I somehow forgot about it. Sounds incredibly annoying actually.

Gin doesn't have a Day 8, even in DS:O (wouldn't make sense, as you banish all demons and lock the King's Gate preventing their return).
I like to think of Gin's Route as the Tenacious D ending.
I dunno if this counts as spoilers for DS2's day 4, but I'll just spoiler to be safe.
Fuck you, Megrez. And you too, Team Tokyo. Team Nagoya for life. Holy shit Keita + Assassination. That is all.
It really is the hardest fight, although I kinda cheesed it the first time by going with whichever team has Yamato in it if you let jungo/keita die. He is silly broken against the regular enemies, even if they made sure he is useless against megrez.

Oh, it was the hardest fight? That's a relief. I think I wasted about three fucking hours on it. The nature of the game made that time feel even longer, so I was very close to throwing my 3DS at the wall.
That said, Yamato can be in a party in that mission? Huh. I let Jungo die on accident, and I couldn't use him.

In the tokyo or osaka squad he joins up, only happened in the playtrough when I managed to get both of them killed though. There are fights coming up which are technically harder, but at that point you have enough options that it feels a lot less annoying. Megrez is just the perfect storm of fuck you mechanics and relative lack of options at that point in the game as far as skills/demons go.
I didn't find Megrez too hard - buying 4/5 star demons as soon as they come up (with the odd special auction thrown in) and using the fusion menu's search to pick up any you miss gave me plenty of options. I've yet to do a single free battle and I'm at the start of day 6. My team is three casters and Keita, because you only get one Pierce while you get four elements and three viable spells for each one.
Well yeah, the 3 casters+1 physical is kinda unavoidable sadly, you even get holy dance+megido+megidolaon if you are a lazy bastard like me who doesn't want to switch skills on people. My main issue with megrez was the movement pattern, you kinda had to know where to go before it happened.

Yeah I went into that thinking I'd hit him with my MC's overwhelming force using Double Up, was deeply annoyed when that strat was rendered worthless. Everything else just sort of worked out for me - I had someone with Flight to take out the distortions, and Meggy spawns ended up dropping down right by Keita who was going in to help out.
The hardest part about Day 4's boss is its large life bar coupled by the fact that it warps around after you did enough damage, and then heals itself. So annoying...
I can't wait to start Devil Survivor 2 from what everyone is saying about it. It's sitting here untouched thus far. I'm trying to finish up all DS:O's endings first.

Good luck with that. A couple of the 8th days will make you want to pull your hair out.
I'm on Day 6 now. The shit is starting to hit the fan plot-wise. Yes.
I'm starting to think my MC's magic stats are maybe too high. Like, 'What's the point of being this strong' high. Maybe I should have dumped some of those points into Agility or Vitality. I dunno.
Boss fights after that sonnuva bitch Megrez are also much more manageable. Goody.
And some spoilers for a sidequest in Day 5:
What was the point of the Billiken mission? I guess I got to see the two Jack Bros getting slaughtered and me missing the chance to crack Holy Dance right in front of my eyes?

Great, confirmation that I've definitely missed something :P Was deluding myself into thinking I was managing a perfect run without the use of a guide, haha.
My MC is like 10/31/10/10 for a few Nulls. I think it caps out at 40 though, so you'll be diversifying soon enough.
Shinobi is reporting that a 3DS version of Soul Hackers has been announced by Atlus in this week's Famitsu. According to him, the game will have full voice acting and other new features. It's scheduled for release on August 30.

WHAT!?
SCANS! NOW!
Too good to be true. Sorry, Gemini. You can still beat Atlus to it though!

I've said this before, but as much as I loved Innocent Sin's fan translation, Atlus USA's really was better. So if they announce it before Gemini is done, I will play the real thing and wait.

I'm at the second to last dungeon.
IMO, atmosphere wise, it really lives up to the glory. The presentation, style, gameplay, everything is great. The only thing bad about it is that it's not in English.
I don't think any SMT game since has made the demon sprite graphics look as good. Not even Strange Journey. They're fully animated and their attacks feel vicious, since they're done with 3D effects.
Come to think of it, now the 3DS makes perfect sense...
That's definitely Soejima aping Kaneko's style, ala the P2 remakes.
According to Korean Atlus fans, Kaneko is currrently 'independent' from Atlus. He doesn't work there although he still does draw/design some stuff for them. Take that with a grain of salt, I couldn't see a definite source. It would make sense though, I don't know.
About playing Soul Hackers in Japanese, I can read Hiragana and Katakana well enough to play the game... Understanding the plot and dialogue properly is a whole different matter. I can get the gist of it, but I always get some minute details wrong. Time for some studying, I guess.

That makes a lot of sense. Sad if true.
That begs the question, then: what IS Kaneko up to?
Still, Soejima worked on Soul Hackers, so this isn't that big a departure. He did all the in-game portraits, and Kaneko just did the key characters, I think. Kind of like IS/EP.
And the let's play I refer to also breaks down the gist of what's going on in the plot.

I will never understand people who get bent out of shape when Engrish is ironed out of American releases.
Whoops, forgot it was a .bmp. That's changed now.

It's still a nice touch for the JP version. :P

Sounds like bunk to me...

I'm still stunned this is really happening. I totally thought they were ignoring Soul Hackers.
Kind of wish it was on the PSP or V, but who cares. Whatever makes it more likely to come out here.
And maps will be helpful. I can attest, Soul Hackers' dungeons are HELL.
Soul Hackers is easily the #1 game on my "Want to play in English" list.
I never finished it (stupid Saturn battery died on me mid-game) but I wrote a partial FAQ for the game a decade or so ago:

It'd be 'me-shell' then wouldn't it?
I'll do it on my next playthrough if you like.

I think I could safely play any SMT game in Japanese now and at least known the difference between Bufu, Agi, and Dia.
